Clever, cute, and fun! But I needed more frequent checkpoints I'm going to get to the end =/

Loved the intro! Really caught me off guard XD The cactus's face is so cute, and the growing and shrinking mechanic is really unique! Very nice take on the theme! Great work!

thank yawwww :D

This was amazing! One of my favorites so far! Such an amazing take on the theme. I thought the level design was just top notch and did a really good job of teaching the mechanics and then expanding on it in some interesting way. Managing the height of the little cactus guy was just the right amount of challenging for me. The cactus guy was so cute too and I thought the sound really fit well with the experience. My only feedback (as others have pointed out) is that I feel like there could have been more frequent checkpoints. I would absolutely play more of this!

Developer

thanks so much im glad you enjoyed!

Very cute mechanic. I love the use of height as both a benefit and an obstacle.

Brutally hard, which I don't mind, but I would have liked more frequent checkpoints - it's too frustrating to die on a section only to have to repeat the previous section again to have a chance to play the hard part again. (In a game like this, I would want a checkpoint in every "room", so deaths are cheap and the challenge is "can you do this once?" not "can you do this sequence of rooms perfectly.) though I realize others may have different opinions.

Also the platforming did not feel great or precise - it is too slidy for me and the gravity is too high. (The section where you have to quickly make blocks to cross a large pit of spikes should be quite simple to do, but I found it infuriating because the horizontal motion would slide off the end or not move far enough causing the block to go up on top, then I would have to jump and risk sliding off again.)

I think this could be an awesome puzzle platformer with some polish and playtesting!

not enough checkpoints is probably my biggest flaw in most games i make as of now, so ill definitely be sure to keep that in mind (originally this game had no checkpoints, so im glad i at least added a few as a last-minute change lmao). thanks so much for the feedback!

An interesting twist on runner games. Made me want to have a cactus in my desk

NOO WHY IS HE TOUCHING THE EVIL WATERR

ok i actually love this, super stressfull and made me rage quite a few times, but still loved it, super clever levels, nice theme interpretation and cute pixel art that makes me want to help this cactus at all costs

Developer(+1)

CACTUSSSS... Also, cool game

Developer(+1)

thank youuuu :D

Is it a tall cactus or an average height cactus with super powers?

Developer

schrodinger's cactus...

Neat game! The control on the E key made the controller weird, otherwise the game is very enjoyable. I think a longer game would introduce the mechanics one by one, I felt like the puzzles jumped in difficulty very quickly. I liked it a lot.

Developer

will very likely remap the controls in the post-jam patch, thanks for playing :D

Cool platforming. A unique approach to the theme :) Congrats :)

Developer(+1)

thanks!

You could have called the game cactdown x)

Really clean puzzles! Well done!

Developer

got a nice ring to it!

Such a great game! It's so clear and easy to play! The gameplay is crystal clear and the features are so smart! Huge congratulation, you definitely should push this game further, this little cactus has so much potential! Also very smart take of the theme

Developer

honestly might have something in mind for combining mechanics from this into my last game-jam game, lil spinsaw! thanks for the kind words!

solid entry! maybe i am a bad player but sometimes its feels abit weird when sometimes my head dont shrink when i drank the forbidden water. map 3 was super hard but i managed to clear it. great job!

Developer

glad you beat it, thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

This is SO clever! I love that you can stick your head to substances. I love the forbidden water. I love the tall cactus. I love the tutorial section to get used to the control before the controls started. Just well done all around!

Developer

i love that you enjoyed it!

Really cool! The first level transition hooked me! The character sticking to ceilings is such a fitting mechanic! Love the music too. My only issue is the deaths can be a bit instant without time to process what happened.

Developer

sadly there was meant to be a death animation but i completely forgot to implement it before uploading! it will be added as soon as voting's over tho :D thanks for playing!

Great platformer with excellent use of the countdown theme. Love the art direction and concept. Great challenge! Just don't press q or e against a wall as this KO's the game.

Developer(+1)

lolol the q glitch will be fixed as soon as jam voting's up, glad you enjoyed!

Submitted(+1)

Fun cute little platformer! I love how creatively you used the growing/shrinking mechanic! (like sticking to the ceiling and shrinking to go up) Good work!

Developer

thank you thank you!

Best puzzle platformer of the jam for me so far! The controls took some getting used to for me. I would have tried place cube on left click, remove cube on right click, jump on space and w, and shrink on s if I could remap. But the sparkle and forbidden water effects are very pretty, I want to learn how to do stuff like that in godot. Also the 3d thumbnail art is great too! A 3D sequel would go hard. Great game!

Developer

i agree with the controls! i think ill remap them once voting's over, but im glad you enjoyed nonetheless!

This is such a creative take on the theme! Love the different puzzle platformer gameplay mechanics. Great game ^^

Developer
