How does your game fit the theme?
Each level is a collection of seven segment digital digits. Every move counts down the digit you are standing on by one. You can only move across lit segments. If no lit segments are touching you, you fall.

Interesting idea, but some gamplay features has no explanation, how about:
Why are falling (that in many of situations mean lose) can win situation, how  on the 4 or 11 level.
(It’s hard to figure out on your own that it works this way)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! A few people noticed the same issue, so the feedback is totally fair. Level 2 was meant to introduce falling, but you’re right, it fails to do that clearly. Being able to catch sparks mid fall and win that way deserves its own level, with clear explanations. I’ll improve it in a post jam update. Thanks for pointing this out!

Holy cannoli, this is your first game and your first game jam? This is wildly impressive, it's such a creative concept executed really well! And 60 levels!! My few nitpicks:

  • It tells you to press any key to go to the next level, but also autoadvances, which made me have to restart the level on a few occasions because I used spacebar as my key but the level had already advanced. Kinda on me for using space, though.
  • It took me way too long to understand what the instructions meant by "If you're not on any lit bars, drop" so I was very bewildered by the fact that some levels were solved by having me seemingly arbitrarily be allowed to grab sparks after I should have died, haha.

However, this game was so clever and clean that I played all 60 levels when I definitely should have instead gone to bed. Definitely expecting to see this one make it to the video!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the game and makes me really happy you played all 60 levels!

I think both nitpicks are valid.

  • For the advancement I think I should pick a strategy and stick to it, just unsure which one is more intuitive or better. I gave the game to playtest to a few close people and got conflicting opinions here, and decided to add both suggestions, which I can see now hurt the experience :D
  • I tried to make every mechanic as intuitive as possible, and actually hoped the game would teach them in a clear way, but I can see how this mechanic can be hard to understand. I think maybe having a simple level with one number off bellow and another on above could teach this mechanic, so that it’s in the back of mind for more difficult levels.

Thank you again for the nice words!

This is the most creative idea I have seen and it is masterfully implemented. The levels were amazing, really liked how verticality was used, made for some cool strategies.

Thank you for the kind words!

Oh, this is very, very clever. Fiendish, even.

And I'm blown away that you put together... 60 levels??? I got to 12 before I was stumped.

The presentation is simple, but works very well for something this abstract.

Thank you! Glad you liked it!

Man, you are a genious.
Thats probabaly the most unique concept that i have seen for this jam so far.

And its extremely well emplemented.
If this dont go for the youtube video, i'l be MAD !!!!!!!

How did you manage to come up with 60 level for a JAM is also beyond me.
Congratulations!!!!

Thank you for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it.

To help with level generation I wrote a BFS solver to find possible interesting maps, and then hand optimised/cut/mixed maps that were too similar, too short or too out there. Even with that, it was still quite hard, barely made it in time :D

Prime example on how some computer ciencie concepts can help in create fine stuff. Again congrats problably my favorite entry in the competition.

This is really fun, and a great take on the theme!

I finished all the levels and the difficulty ramp near the end feels really balanced

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

super fun interpretation of the theme! mechanics all felt intuitive and was pretty fun to put them into practice. I agree with the others on the great balancing and learning curve :) the sfx and responsiveness also felt nice! gj!

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

Really fun to play, got the hang of it almost immediately and I couldn’t stop playing. The mechanic was really creative. Got my brain working overtime after a certain point TwT

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it! Sorry about the overtime :D

Neat, cozy, and relaxing puzzle game! I liked the simple concept and how many additional mechanics you've built on top of it.

Developer

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the mechanics!

The mechanics takes some getting used to, but after becoming familiar with them it's so fun to mix and match all the tricks to solve the puzzles.  Great job! Love the glow effect btw.

Developer

Makes complete sense. I should think of a better way to introduce the mechanics and make them more intuitive.

Thank you for the comment!

Pretty cool game in general! I really like the concept, and it was executed well too! Good job, only thing was the levels started to feel a little repetitive after 15, but they're so quick it doesn't matter much. Love it!

Developer

Thank you! A very nice observation about the repetitiveness. I wanted to cut 10 more levels, but didn’t have enough time before the end of the jam.

Tried coming up with more unique puzzles, but hit a creative wall, and the BFS solver I wrote didn’t help too much either :D

Glad you liked it!

Very neat concept for a puzzle game! Reminds me of the Sootopolis gym from Pokemon.

Developer

Thank you! Interesting observation about the sootopolis gym. Hadn’t thought of that.

Very relaxing game, very enjoyable after a stressful gamejam :)

Very cooool concept to use the countdown as the path you can take! I like it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The idea got inspired by Futurama S2E4, where fry falls off the clock tower :D
