I honestly didn't expect to play a game like this in a game jam. It was incredibly well made and really impactful. I enjoyed it a lot.

Congratulations, and great job!

Limtotage, thank you so much. Your comment means a lot to me and it made my day :)

I can’t give a rating for the game jam rankings (I’m part of a team) but overall I’d give this game a 4/5!

The atmosphere is insanely good, I love the framing and definitely see the Citizen Sleeper inspiration (also love that game)! The art is so well done, and the story is incredibly unique and compelling too. It caught my eye immediately and I’m very glad I played it. I love your interpretation of this Rakugo story.

I think a little tweaking on the controls to do things like skip dialogue without skipping choices, or implementing a save file system to be able to explore the different endings easier would be nice.

Well done!

Thank you Calo! I really appreciate your comment. I'm very happy a fellow CS lover liked my game. haha
Yeah, save system or chapter select seems to be a must based on the feedback I got. I'll have to learn how to make a good one!

Wow, you made a wonderful aesthetic. I would love to see a longer game based on this story.

Whoa, that's such a high praise. Thank you OuroborosMaker!

Maybe, maybe I'll look into that...

cute VN, i guess i shouldn’t’ve expected a different ending since the game tells you so right from the start… but i still thought i’d have more choice!

overall great art and sound design, interesting story

Thank you jake!

Yeah, the core of the OG story of Rakugo is also about "how you get to the death" so you always end up in the same outcome. Every choice has score attached to it, so depending on what score you have, you'll get a different ending.

That was so beautiful, i love this style of game.

Thank you Cat In A Wig!

My first inspo was Citizen Sleeper, my beloved.  I'm so glad it hit you well!

I really enjoyed the heart of the story - a life of purpose equal to the value of said life. As a fan of Japanese rakugo, i enjoyed your take on it!! The world and vibe were pristine.

I wish it was easier to progress through the story to see other endings - I would spam the spacebar to get to the next dialogue but inadvertently select a choice, maybe there's a way to separate the two? Also- a speedup function for multiple playthroughs would've been great

Hey, a fellow Japanese person (judging by your sign-off name)!

Thank you so much, this is my favourite Rakugo story so I'm very happy that you like my take on it. Also thank you for your comment about art.

What you pointed out is totally valid and it is exactly where I fell short... I made everything solo so I had to cut a few features. I had the ideas like chapter select options and flexible save system but I ran out of time. If I were to come back to this and work on it more, I'd make sure to include the said features!

Thank you! Sorry we used one team account before we realized we could have multiple people registered with a gamejam project. I wanted to add that not just the art but the writing and "feel" really were great!

Developer

Oh all good, thank you! :D

The art is incredibly well made! but other than that the game and its story didnt really have that much going on to engage me with the characters. Not really a fan of visual novels so maybe this just wasnt for me.

Hey, while it didn't click with you, thanks for giving it a shot anyway, CavoX5!

Yeah, the core of the story is from a classic Rakugo from Japan. I really like it but I guess it chooses people.

You at least liked the art and that's a plus for me :D
