How does your game fit the theme?
Shot strengths are determined by the Collatz, or hailstone sequence. The sequence eventually goes down to 1 for all starting positive whole numbers (or at least the first 295 quintillion)

Really interesting to take away power control from the player with a math function, I really like this take on the theme, great job!

A small piece of feedback is that it would have been cool to have a shader or something in the background with a bit of parallax to make it easier to feel the speed.

Developer

Thank you so much, and thanks for the feedback. I'm still new to game dev so its great learning about these.
GOATed username by the way XD

Really creative, I especially liked how you could begin remembering some starting numbers as you play and the few numbers that come next; for example 80 goes to 40 then 20 then 10, so that's a pretty solid starting number for making large initial strokes that get more and more surgical as you approach the hole.

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah 80 is nice because at 5 it shoots up a bit if you need that extra power. The powers of 2 like 64 or 128 are also good for this but never shoot up again

This game was so algebraic it made me want to try and prove that NUMBERS EXIST. I CANT PROVE THAT NUMBERS EXIST AND IT HAUNTS ME AND IT MAKES ME HURT, unlike this game, which was so awesome that it made me feel great feelings of euphoria.

Developer

Ahah thank you! I always wonder if we discovered or invented mathematics

I though it was funny to see my ball go crazy after picking a massive number

Developer

I spent too long during development just doing this XD

Unique concept!

Developer

Thanks !!

This was a lot of fun! I agree that it's a missed opportunity for a nice explanation of the Collatz Conjecture, which I would've enjoyed (and I assume you would've too!) But I enjoyed the level design and gameplay a lot. I noticed a couple of things: when zoomed all the way out, the guideline was very small and hard to see. Also, at very high speeds, the velocity can get stuck 100% vertical or 100% horizontal, which won't ever hit the hole and beat the level. These issues didn't stop me by playing the game as intended, which was really fun!

Developer

Thank you for your review!

There is an explanation accessible from the main menu, but perhaps I could have made it clearer.

I'm aware of both these issues, unfortunately ran out of time. Glad you had fun though :)

Submitted

Oh, I see the button now, sorry about that!

Developer

Probably my bad for not making it clearer. Thanks again for playing

It was really fun when finally the years of watching varetasium became usful for once

the number 25 is too op you should nerf this man the meta of the game is broken because of it, 25 gives you both power and precision it is the perfect number for this game

Developer

Veritasium the GOAT! Thanks for playing

Very clever idea! And a lot of fun, realising you're next to the hole with a power of 100 is painful XD But I'd totally play more levels, and it's a really interesting idea that I bet could apply to other games/number sequences as well! Well done! :D

Developer

Thank you so much!

This is a really good game. Like, really good. I had a ton of fun with it. Probably explain what the collatz conjecture is before starting, but beyond that it’s SUPER fun!!!

Developer

Thank you so much!!

Pretty fun game, some levels were a bit hard, because I didn't know that the speed scaled with the number, which, once I understood, I just kind of stopped trying to get the ball in the hole, and instead just tried putting in some massive numbers, which created some interesting situation, which was pretty fun to do. Anyways, if played like it should be played, it's a pretty fun game with an interesting concept. Well done!

Developer

While developing even I wasted so much time just cranking the numbers up to a couple of thousand and watching the ball fly XD

Thank you for playing

as an enjoyer of math this was a lot of fun to experiment with different numbers and try to plan what kind of speeds im gonna need to get to the end. very cool and fun concept!

Thank you so much!

I love this game and I love that someone even thought to come up with it. I always tried with 64 as I believed in myself, although the last level I had to up it to 128. One thing that would be cool is to somehow preview the level a little before picking your number. Great game though well done

Developer

Thank you for the review :)

Yeah the powers of 2 are overpowered! Wish I had made a level that counters it somehow. I wanted to implement a level preview but ran out of time!

Wonderfully creative and really fun to play! I enjoyed calculating sequences and finding a good fit for each level; I think it's good the game lets you do this and doesn't provide you the sequences.

Developer

I was wondering if a number queue would be nice, but this suggests otherwise! Thank you for the review :)

I like to think that you saw the theme and instantly your brain fired off:"Ah yes,", dusting off your 500 page brick of a math encyclopedia, knowing the SPECIFIC page this math formula was on FROM MEMORY, you say to yourself as you flip the pages "Eureka!"

I like how this game is structured, not many levels but you can pick whichever number you want to tackle said levels. My only gripe is that you don't seem to be able to see what number your ball is going to fire off at (if there was a way to see it, maybe like a queue of numbers at the very top) it would make the game much easier to play. Or just have a "Calculate Speed" button which opens an in built calculator. Then you cackle like a cartoon villain and pet the evil cat that you totally have in front of your evil fireplace

Thought the last level being a reference to the golden ratio very cute, wish it had actual curves like it though but it does get the message across, well done! Very creative

Developer

Haha this review is golden! I did have a 'ah yes' moment, but instead of a math encyclopedia it was a math podcast haha. Yeah a number queue would have been quite nice! I'm glad someone appreciates the golden ratio reference :)

Such a unique concept but really fun to play and its all strategy from the first number. Great game (:

Developer

Thank you ! Great to hear the number feature adds some strategy

Interesting math gimmick as a math at uni enjoyer. I also managed to get outside the map xD

Would be a fun to have different formulas on different levels. And maybe cap out the collatz starting number.

Developer

Thanks for the review! From one uni math enjoyer to the other :D

Yeah I was hoping no one ran into that bug! I worked so hard to get rid of it

And yeah theres a lot of scope for different formulas. I did secretly cap at 100, where numbers above 100 would be just as fast but slow down less

excellent  use of Lothar Collatz conjectures in a game, which really make this game unique!

Thank you my friend!

Really cool take on a golf game! I just wish I was not as bad as I am at golf, got stuck on level 4.

Thank you so much!

My mind is blown in the best way ever. Amazing job!
