Dang, pretty good for the amount of time you had. I really like how the game looks, and the sand simulation is awesome!

Developer

Thanks bro! Great job on Sands of Time. Rooting for y'all to get in the video

Love the art and the simple but fun controls. Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!!

A changing arena is a fun idea. I found the fighting itself a little hard to control and died in the last round because I couldn't really avoid getting hit by a beach ball.

Developer

Yeah the progression/gameplay definitely needs some work. Thanks for playing and leaving thoughtful feedback though!

The physical effect of the sand is indeed quite good. It would be even better if some sound effects were added.

Developer

Good call on the sound effects lol. Hopefully I have time to circle back to that

I enjoyed your game! It is extremely clever to have to fight bouncing balls in an hour glass because not only do the wall's angles mean the ball will fall down on both sides of the player, but the floor as sand fills up creates another triangle making the balls fly at the player horizontally. That is some neat geometry.  An option to reset on death and win would have been nice.  Also I got to know why beach balls?

Developer

Thanks for playing! Actually if you hold jump, it will reset on death/winning but thats not really communicated lol my bad -- its a little buggy too so refreshing is probably a better bet until I release a post jam. I really struggled to figure out what the "enemy" would be for this game would be. Bouncing balls were easy to implement, and I wouldn't have to worry about them suffocating because they are inanimate, and I drew the ball with like 5 minutes in the jam and a beach ball was the first thing I thought of lol

Submitted

Oh lol they work well

Developer

I might change that for the post jam release tho. thanks for asking

Very cool idea!

Really cute! how did you do the sand simulation?

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The sand simulation is a cellular automata. If you just look up sand simulations, that would be a good starting point since its a pretty classic programming exercise. Mine has some modifications to the most basic sand simulation to add velocity, upwards movement, etc. And then I periodically draw a polygon collision over the stationary sand to make it interactable :)

That's crazy, thanks for the details!

Submitted(+1)

Really love the idea, its crazy that you can actually kick sand, it looks really cool

Developer

Thank you so much! I love your profile photo by the way

Submitted(+1)

Very creative and the sand simulation is so smooth, great job!
Would love to try it again when you add all the things you want.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!! I'll definitely try and get the post-jam-release done  before too long

Really Cool Game!! hope you add the list of future mechanics and stuff since you said you didnt add them for now..

Developer(+1)

Thanks!! Yes I'm planning to revisit this project for sure ;)

Submitted(+1)

Love the idea of the hourglass and the sand physics! Hope you keep working on this in the future.

Developer(+1)

Yes! I plan to add some less repetitive gameplay and add all the polish I didn't have time for

Submitted(+1)

The sand is really cool, great work

Developer

Thanks!!!

Submitted(+1)

Managed to reach the disco hourglass ! You've really nailed the sand physics

Developer

haha congrats! and I'm glad you think the sand looks good ;)

Submitted(+1)

love it. most creative idea i have seen so far in the jam. fun game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much !!

Always happy to see another Godot game.  I like how the sand builds up and interferes with the task a little bit, I would have liked to see that explored more.  Also, I though the game froze on me at first, but I guess there just isn't any indication when you run out of hp other than your character stops responding?

Developer

Hi thanks for playing! Yes- I spent my whole time making a (mostly) bug-free sand simulation and didn't have any time for the gameplay lol. When you die, the background turns black. I wanted to make it more about trying to not get buried before your task was finished but I didn't to a great job of that lol. I might switch it to more of a puzzle style task in my post jam build (along with  all the optimizations and improvements I have listed). Hope that clears things up and thanks again for the feedback ;)

I love when the hourglass spins around to switch "level", really cool. The background visuals combined with the hourglass reminds me of WarioWare :D

Developer

Thanks!

Nice idea ! RIP sound design, next time ;)

Developer(+1)

haha yeah. I would have loved a couple more days to finish. Thanks for playing anyways :)

Neat physical interpretation of the theme!

Developer

Thank you bro
