This is a really cute & fun little game! I love the framing of it - having to make money for taxes is a natural way to add some stakes and encourage good picture-taking. (Plus, it comes with an excellent cutscene.) The hand-drawn graphics are nice, as is the silly music!

The gameplay is also cool. From the description, I thought it would be one single gameplay loop, but it ended up being a bunch of little scenarios that are all totally different. The variety of playstyles and super-short length per level reminds me a lot of WarioWare. All of them were goofy in a fun way too - that goat kept running away with the money! - and I liked how intelligently they were scored, with superpositions and the like.

Some of the games seemed hard to do within the time limit (specifically that Where’s Waldo-style one), but you get better at them with time - and some like the puzzle even keep your progress between attempts, which is nice. The game could definitely do with a few more minigames, since there aren’t many right now, but that’s understandable during a jam. If I were you, I would definitely expand this post-jam! I could see it working well on mobile as well as PC.

By the way, shoutouts to Élise! Great use of foley for the SFX. And some fun voice acting :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot 💚 I guess you got an amazing coincidence on the puzzle game, because if I'm not mistaken the base placement is fully random!

I'm quite happy seeing people ask for a post-jam version! I don't know yet if we will do it as we had some more ideas but sadly didn't have time to implement them to have more polished mini-games. We thought of mobile at the very end and it's currently unplayable, but it probably isn't a big difficulty to adapt the game for those given the controls 😄

Submitted(+1)

That’s a funny coincidence! I got 3-4 pieces in place the first time and they all seemed to still be there when I got it again. Guess I was just extremely lucky?

Developer(+1)

I guess so 😁

Hey, thanks for your comment! Really appreciate the time and effort you put into this. I'm not sure there's more to say than what Sylber already said or what has been discussed with other commentors (some discussions go pretty deep into the reasons behind our choices for Say Cheese! and could interest you if you want to read more about our game) but I still wanted to thank you in person since you wrote that much for us to read.

First of all, I guess, is that the money is grabbed by a donkey and not a goat.

Second, there is a funny easter egg that I'm not going to explain concerning that same DONKEY.

Third, I'll make sur to keep you posted if we add games or if the game leaves the game jam scope.

And eventually, if you need voice acting, I'll be glad to lend you my daughter for a year of two. I could learn to love the silence and the peace. Wadayathink?

Thanks for all everything!

Well, if she goes into the sound design business, make sure she charges for her services… artists need to get paid!

Super funny, incredibly creative, and super fun to play! Everything is executed so well. Fantastic job!

Developer(+1)

Well, that's a one-way praise that I gladly take! Thanks for playing, thanks for commenting! I'm heading towards your game and hoping you did even better than us!

Submitted(+2)

Cool idea. Very stressful :)

Developer

Yup... As an afterthought, I realized most of the games including some kind of countdown would be stressful and I didn't want to be the developer that "just makes another stressful game" but we were already too deep in the development to change directions.

Did you like the game ?

Submitted(+2)

its actually peak <3 love it, rated it 5 on all and almost got me to shed a tear

Developer(+1)

Damn! Thank you so much friend, that's very much appreciated! 💚

Submitted(+2)

Bro its too good , its really funny in the starting . and i rated 5 rate in all i loved it

Developer

Woooo thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed our game! 🤩

Submitted(+2)

loved the cozy artstyle man incredibel creativity enjoyed playing would love to see a post jam version

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm not 100% sure we'll continue to work on the game afterwards though we had more ideas in mind, but asking for more really is a nice compliment! 💚

Developer(+1)

Yeah, we had a list with something like ten or fifteen minigames but we decided to implement only five to make sure we could polish them enough for a jam game. We might build others if we feel there are more people interested.

Thanks for playing, it's great to read such comments.

Submitted(+2)

Amazing game, loved the art, the music and your voice acting : )

The gameplay itself was amazing too, to be able to do more than 2/3 actions with only mouse drag as the input from player shows the creativity in you.  Buying the figurine at the end was hilarious to me haha.

Would love to see the game further developed.

Developer

Thank you so much for your comment! All members of the team are complimented through those praises 🤩 I'm glad you enjoyed your game, I don't know if we'll take the time to improve it further though we definitely had some more ideas in mind. 4 days (with a job during the week) is too short!

Submitted(+1)

Definetly 4 days is too short for any game to be fully developed, yet you guys did amazing coming up with it. Bit sad there might not be more to it but everyone who played enjoyed it and that whats count. Great Job once again to every member of the team.

Developer(+1)

What's really cool is that the Level Editor we built allows us to implement even more games pretty quickly. The bottleneck would probably be our artist, who has to hand-draw every single sprite. He did such an amazing job during those 4 days !

If other people are interested, I'll make another two or three games for you, but the art may be a bit lacking if Unau has his hands full on other projects. We'll see !

Submitted

Art is one of most lacking part of my Game Dev journey. To create those high quality hand-drawn sprite within 4 days is something I can only dream of. Hats off to Unau ∠(‘-‘  ). And, no pressure guys! Games feel great when we have the total freedom of doing our own things.

Developer

Encouraging thoughts, thanks for sharing them. Did you work in a team ?

Submitted

No, I was solo in this one.

Submitted(+2)

Really liked the art style and theme, I found the puzzle the hardest and DID find Sasoooook

Developer(+1)

Haha good job on finding him! Thanks for playing and commenting! 🫶

Developer(+1)

The puzzle was the very first game that we completely finished and... hell yes, it's very hard when you don't know what the result is supposed to look like.

And the RNG on the puzzle game is really unforgiving. Sometimes the tiles are placed close enough to the end result, sometimes the mixing is hardcore.

GGs for finding Sasook! He kinda has become our mascotte during the jam!

And thanks a lot for the comment!

Submitted(+2)

The game is really fun and cool! I showed it to other people, they all liked it! Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Merci, ça me fait trop plaisir de t'avoir vu streamer le jeu tout à l'heure ! C'est très généreux de ta part.

Je regarde le jeu de ta team et toi ce soir après le boulot !

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the nice comment! And thanks again for streaming our game too 💚

Submitted(+1)

Very funny, good job!

Developer

Thank you! I really enjoyed your game too 🥳

Submitted(+2)

Fun little game, I like the siren sound at the end

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying out our game! We definitely hired the best voice actor (Folchamp's daughter) for all our SFX! 😄

Submitted(+2)

Wish there were more minigames, but the creativity is still through the roof! The gameplay of course reminds me a lot of the Wario Ware games and the artstyle is very fun.

Developer(+1)

Wario Ware was definitely one of our inspirations for this! Those fast pace mini-games are just so much fun to me. We were a bit out of time, but we definitely wanted to put more minigames 😄 Thanks for trying our game!

Submitted(+2)

I wish it had more levels to play. I enjoy it a lot.
The puzzle level were the hard one.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! I must admit, I never managed to get a full puzzle myself haha. We definitely had more ideas in mind but the time of the jam felt too short 😄

Submitted(+1)

You are totally right. After submitting, I figured out how I could make my game design and balancing better, but I just ran out of time.

Submitted(+2)

easily one of the top few ideas i have played! great job man!

Developer

I may have posted the game but I also may be the least to praise for the game! All five of us, plus my 4yo child, lend their talents to the project. They deserve the real credit!

(+2)

wow, I wonder what do you guys eat? How do you do these art and games in 4 days!

Developer(+1)

Eating and drinking is time lost not coding! 😄 Jokes aside, thanks for your nice comment!

Yw!

Developer(+1)

I mean, I ate only sugar for 48h, then I decided to sleep and take care of myself. When fresh again, a last sprint towards the finish line brought us here. Still not sure how we managed this.

Thanks a lot for your comment.

Submitted(+2)

Bruh i love this artstytle and the sounds

very good game

Developer

It's amazing to hear this ! Élise (the little girl in the credits) kept asking to participate and eventually she did the best voice acting of us all.

Of course, the magnificent artwork of Unau don't need words, he's simply too good for all of us.

Thanks for playing, thanks for commenting, I'm glad that you found this a very good game. ♥️

Submitted(+2)

It's the voice acting that carried it for me. Amazing game! 🐸

Developer(+1)

Yeah, when we recorded it on the integrated microphone of my old computer, we burst into laughs and had to let others hear the funny sounds.

I'm glad you liked the game, happy that you kept playing until the end !

Submitted(+2)

Love it! Funny little intro too, it can seem small but it does a lot more than you think for the rest of the game!

Developer (3 edits)

In my opinion, when the intro was made by Sylber, the global motivation of the team went up and up and up. It was also a great moment when we recorded the sounds for the intro he drew.

After that, our artist added his personal touch on the intro, which eventually nailed the chef d'œuvre it now is.

Thanks for playing! I completely agree that a successful introduction does a lot for a jam game. And thanks for the comment also!

Submitted(+2)

and the gmtk 26 best voice acting goes to ......... say-cheese.
This was honestly such a fun game and I specially liked the voice acting although I struggled with the cat seperation puzzle and the puzzle one

Developer(+1)

Yeah, it was kind of hard for us to decide the order of the mini-games. First the easy ones was obvious but we had different experiences on the games and finally we opted for some sort of alternance between hard and easy.

I'm not sure someone (except the devs of course) finished the puzzle yet. It's a tough one!

Secret tip for the cats game : hold the last one in the air to avoid superposition!

Thanks a lot for playing and leaving a comment.

Incredible heartwarming story <3 I love that the tax collector just wanted to buy that guitar. The music was so cute. Very well done! Great idea!

Developer (1 edit)

The story was progressively built and written by Unau and Sylber, while I simply nodded and tried not to laugh. I can guess they're very proud and happy to hear that the storyline worked so well.

I was the sound engineer for the jam (with very mediocre skill) but the actors and musicians (Colibrille and Élise) did such a good job that it made mine laughably easy.

None of us was very sure the game would play out that well, thanks for leaving a comment, it's great to hear you liked our work.
