I had to stop in the middle of this.
Either way, good job! Though, you may want to keep the feedback of the comments in mind, especially for those for a game jam, where you at least want only a few minutes of your time at the rating stage.
Very nice cohesion of the art and looks like it could be a lot of fun. Right now its too big of a game so comes off more unfinished. Map this big needs more direction so for the jam probably a smaller map and then scale up with some hints / log afterwards. Could be a lot cooler still. I like the camera zoom actually it was more about the kinda jarring movement along there instead. Had fun "exploring" though and unlocking the kinda mystery of the game so in that way ots kinda cool (like old zelda) that you are left to fend for yourself and figure out. The characters were charming enough to keep going for longer than i expexted. Heard the click sound on the menu and was oh kinda cool and then nothing , in case you didn't notice haha. See where it goes after jam :)
Everyone is so mean to him, poor count!
I liked the design of the whole thing but it was a bit confusing. I can see you are planning to update this, so looking forward to the finished game!
that is one large map, every time i feel like i reached the end there is another section, i was collecting a lot of things but i didnt know what or where they were for.
i liked the play on words tho!
Haha thank you! That's totally fair!
I liked the core idea here, and I think you've achieved a lot with the map and the scale of this game. There's a real sense of uncertainty here which I think compliments the character, but it's very difficult to navigate the world effectively. The NPCs do a fairly effective job of directing you towards the locations of lost items, etc - but as a first time player I have no idea where those places are or what they mean.
The game looks great, although I think it could maybe do with zooming out slightly so the frame captures more of the screen. The controls are really smooth, and I loved the fly/sprint animation - that was a really great touch!
Ultimately, I think scaling the map down and presenting a more focused experience would hugely improve this game - but what is here is quite a lot of fun to play and looks great.
Great work, team!
Thank you! We are making a lot of plans to increase the enkoyment and playability of actually navigating the world, comments like yours are helping us a ton.
I felt alone, misunderstood, and an outcast. Perfect! :) Map design was beautiful. Very cosy
Sounds like we accomplished something!
Wowwwwwwwwwwww wasnt expecting such a huge map lol
Haha yeah when the jam is up we will be updating the gameplay to make the map much more manageable!
Okay, so the map is absolutely massive, such that I found it quite hard to navigate and my movements were mostly random / following the map edges. I managed to find a gem, a key, some stone / spike type things, a darkened keep and perhaps some other items, but when I made my way back to the village, the residents didn't seem to react differently. I wasn't able to really make sense of what to do beyond this or how to progress.
I think the pure size of the game possibly is to your detriment, and without a map and quest log, it's really hard to know what I need to do, collect and who I need to go back to with said items. I think this might be the case of the game feeling smaller and simpler to you both as developers as you know it like the back of your hand compared to someone coming in blind.
I hope you don't feel like I'm being too critical, I just noticed that you've had 8 ratings and basically no feedback; so I am hoping to put a little meat on the bone as to what I think is happening.
The art is great, and naturally everything works together well. The movement controller and camera system are excellent; it's got a lovely feel to it. It's a first world problem to have, but your game is just too big I think!
If you're able to give me any pointers on where I need to go and what I should be looking for, I would be happy to revisit this and try to complete it. Thank you.
Amazing feedback! We were just discussing those very points. We want to go back and update the game to have abetter sense of position and add more features to questing and maps
That would be brilliant!
Agree with this! Cool concept and I feel very maternal to the count lol. I do think the map being like exact copies of stardew assets is, idk...maybe tweaking it more so it's not SO similar? But agree w the positive comments of this too.
HAHAHA, the Count- Down, lol, creative really
Haha thank you! We thought we were being original too but apparently everyone thought of vampires
Makes me want to play the classic Zelda games again. The map is huge, and the screen feels maybe a little too zoomed in, but I think the artstyle is pretty nice :)
Feel free to review my game too if you get the chance!
Thank you! Zelda was the goal!
