Quite polished! My finger is sore now but thats another topic

This is quite an interesting concept in and off itself and it does feel quite polished for a jam game.

I had fun playing it, I do feel a bit like the difficulty spike is maybe slightly exponential. Which is fine, not too bad.

It is visually quite impressive as well, many of the VFX are really cool, especially the level start glitching effect. Sound design is done well enough too.

I think the restart could maybe be quicker, so the player can jump back in quickly enough, which props to the game really for making me want to play again and again.

And making the bugs pesky roaches was a great idea.

Overall a really nice concept, I had fun playing it.

Thanks. Yeah it kinda scales decently hard which is meant for you to get upgraded and then continually get further. Clicking the small honses (aka the Trojan honses) spawns a bunch of bugs but you don't need to click on the honses to pass a wave so avoid them makes it a bit easier. They're mostly just there to punish spam clickers a bit

Update should be coming after the jam to add some faster restarts

I'M GETTING CARPAL TUNNEL

Developer (1 edit)

Space and enter are also valid to use instead of left click which is easier on the fingers for those rapidly clicking

Don't worry I still loved the game! I'll try those out as well

Bahahahaa, I LOVED this. What a fun bug bash. The little bugs that spawned out of squished ones made me laugh out loud because it's exactly the level of evil I'd expect from digital cockroaches. Super entertaining!

This is such a cool style! The way you implemented everything fits perfectly. I wish "respawning" was a bit snappier but the graphics are so awesome.

Developer(+1)

Update coming hopefully right after the jam to speed that up!

Submitted(+1)

Wow this was really cool, the visuals and the vibes are the best parts. It feels polished enough to be a full-on game by itself, which caused my crappy Chromebook to lag, but I can only imagine how good it must look not running at 4fps in later levels lol.

Developer

Typically it runs better in the download version but not sure if it would for a chromebook since I haven't tested with one atm. I'll see if I can add in a low quality mode after the jam that makes the shaders less intensive

The theme was kinda shallow. . . Ok that's all the complains I have with this game.

This was really polished and felt like could have been sold on Steam for a fair price. Artstyle overall sold me on the idea of a old Windows System being infected by a virus and I find hilarious the idea of getting rid of the virus by smashing them on your screen, leaving cracks if you miss 'em. The music exales Ultrakill and Doom on its chaotic nature. Mechanic-wise this is impressive for a 4 day game, there's a whole skill tree outside of the main temporary upgrades.

Truth be told, if this team ends up finishing and releasing this game on Steam, I'm buying it, if anything, for the quality that this version of the game achieved in so little time.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! Yeah I've been planning to expand on it and release it on steam likely in a year (maybe before the next GMTK so we can work on a brand new game then) so that should be appearing sometime soon. Ill try to do a devlog post on the itch page and announce that in our discord when the steam page is setup

Feels like it was made by a proper gamedev! Many tried something similar in concept but this is the first I really enjoyed. Really digged the animations, space bar was a thoughtful gesture to your fellow jammers, auto fire would have been even better or maybe you could introduce a timer between shooting and shoot for longer? Loved the horse, I could not help but not fire on it to keep it alive! ♥️

Developer

The honse thanks you 🐴

I was thinking of doing auto fire or maybe having that as an upgrade but didn't end up having time to plan out something good. I'll try to revisit that as maybe an accessibility setting or something

Definitely the most complete game Ive played in the jam. Like wow cant believe this was made in a couple of days.

Developer (1 edit)

thanks! yeah this turned out pretty well and it let me expand on my game framework a bunch so likely all my future games can get up to a similar point quicker and then I can add even more to them

Superm polishec awesome game my one bit of feedbak is restarting after dying takes too long

Developer

Update coming post jam to speed up the death sequence!

Overall, really nicely made game! I loved the effects and things for things like the computer blue-screening. I found myself having a lot of fun just messing around, trying to get past the waves of bugs lol. Overall, 10/10 game, really well done!

Developer

thank you!

Super cool and a well crafted game. Loved it. Although I will say it wasn't always clear what the "mods"  would do, and the first time the in-game upgrades showed up I clicked outside the box and it closed so I don't know if I picked any up or if I got a random one or what. Still I enjoyed it greatly and the little desktop was cute.

Developer(+1)

Ill see if I can add some more descriptions to the mods (and probably lock ones that relate to things you havent seen before such as hiding the elite missiles when you havent unlocked hard mode yet)

I do need to add more of a cooldown to the shop clicking. Will add that in after the jam ends

Love de vibe !

Loved the aesthetic of it, and it was really polished and fun :3

I really liked the animation and art overall. The game felt nice, with more variety in all sorts of bugs and ways to destroy them it can become a complete game for Steam. One thing I didn't like, is that the web was staying on screen for too long - maybe it was intended, though if I click fast the whole screen is in the web and it's hard to see. Other than that the game is really well polished!

Developer(+1)

thanks! the cracks/webs are mostly meant to be a punishment for missing to encourage more accuracy in the shooting instead of everyone just rapidly clicking everything. You can still do it but theres more of a tradeoff due to losing vision which makes practicing your aim and sniping the bugs more wanted.

There is also an upgrade you can get from the shop that lets you repair all the cracks every so often which clears them up

Submitted(+1)

This game is SO stressful in all the right ways. You really nailed the difficulty imo. The breaking glass, music, and frantic movement of the enemies definitely adds to the chaos and I loved that I couldn’t just spam my way through it. It is such a rewarding game to get better at. Honestly tho, I could see this hurting my finger after a while lol

Developer

thanks! spacebar and enter also work for clicking which I added in to help with the finger hurting issues (credit to 10 million clicks together for giving me the idea by having it first lol)

Submitted(+1)

i'm to bad.... =^=

Developer (1 edit)

take these bugs of encouragement 🐛🐛🐛🐛🐛. Unlocking the shop early by doing the two upgrades in the bottom path of the system mods makes things easier in zone 1. I'll probably also move the second one of those upgrades earlier in the upgrade tree post jam which would make it easier to unlock early to help out

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Such a great game, but I’m so bad at it lol, maybe better to move the shop upgrades farther in the upgrades tree; I couldn’t even reach a shop for a long time and there were only a few upgrades that don’t rely on it

Developer

thanks! yeah fair point about that I'll probably lock most of them behind preload and move that to be earlier so people are guaranteed to have a shop before getting all the shop upgrades

Submitted(+1)

Amazing presentation and polish! Great job!

Developer(+1)

thank you! 🐛

I really liked this game! Everything is well polished, the popups are funny, and the meta-game progression where things can progressively get easier over time to incentivize playing again is very clever!

Developer

thanks!
