It was a really nice idea, and the colors looked beautiful. Well done! 👏

This is more my kind of game, I like the concept a lot, it would be nice to show tooltips during the race, e.g. to inspect opponents items, I got beat by the Gas Guzzler I think, a leaderboard would fit nice too, as for the graphics, they are kinda minimal but I like the color choices and style, the sounds were okay but there seems to be no music, overall a great entry.

your end life plan seems nice, async multiplayer would be good for this kinda game.

Good job!

Retrospective

Spending all of the development time making the grid work doesn't really gain anything without adding unique item synergies. Also during the game there isn't enough of a space demand to make the puzzle of fitting all of the items together relevant. There is no interaction between player and opponent builds both just gain speed and are doing their own thing which makes the game into a not very deep experience where I could have just replaced opponents with lap targets. The lack of sounds and visual effects isn't helping it either. I think there is room to grow in the game design aspect. I’m happy with the code. I only managed to find 2 major bugs if you have the same items as opponents the game soft locks and if you open pause menu during the race it still goes on.

Man don't beat yourself up; for a 1 week jam it's pretty neat, and it's a pretty good prototype.

The idea is really good and out of the box, but I really missed having sound — there was none (or maybe I hit a bug?). It's not a strong contender for the jam, but I really enjoyed it and hope you keep it up, whether it's with this project or the next one.

Crossing Backpack Battles with a race is a creative pitch and unlike anything else I've seen in this jam. Managing your inventory as if it were your racing build is a good hook. The menu palette (bubblegum pink over petrol blue) with the rounded font looks friendly and readable, and having a Continue option suggests there's saving and progression in there.

Unfortunately I couldn't start it. I clicked New Game several times, tried double clicking, and the menu never responded at all.

I think I know why: the game window is much bigger than the screen. The whole menu is squeezed into a small card in the bottom left corner and the rest is a huge empty blue area with a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom. That mismatch is very likely what's breaking the clicks, since the clickable area probably isn't where it's drawn.

Practical suggestion: re-export the WebGL build with a resizable / responsive canvas and test it in an 800px window. As it stands a lot of people voting in this jam won't get past the menu, which would be a shame given the idea.

I liked it! It's a great starting point/prototype for a game!

Lost to Draco but I had a lot of fun shaping the car! Nice feeling UI too. Would love to see a multiplayer and some racing sfx/noises. VROOOOOMMMM

I enjoyed it a lot! There could be music and more sounds when racing. I liked the puzzle-like mechanic of fitting the car parts together to optimize space and pack in more. There is just one issue: when a race is about to start—specifically during the "buying" phase—you are charged the moment you pick up a part, and some can only be resold for a lower price. In my opinion, it would be better if the charge applied only when you placed the part "inside the vehicle," with a refund issued if you removed it before the race began.

Ugh lost to Draco. The difficulty was not steep. Loved the menu sounds and feedback, but the race could use more sounds.
Overall the concept of tweaking engine output vs fuel generation is somewhat interesting. It sounds like a fun mechanic!

I know I just try to set up everything ahead of time before the daedline  to avoid any roadblock.  Thanks for the heads up
