I love rhythm games so this was great! Really liked the usage of the theme, plus the fact that all upgrades added another intrument to the mix was sooo good. Nice stuff!!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I couldn’t get into this one, the calibration was all over the place even after connecting my headphones via aux instead of bluetooth, even with the easy timing window on it felt more precise than Lockstep and I could not get past round 2.
…I blame the fact that it’s a web build. web builds have been giving me trouble recently.
Thats too bad, I'm sorry to hear that. There is an easy mode in the settings with a much wider timing window if you want to try that out? You can also try manually adjusting the offset as well. But yeah, it seems like people have a varying amount of success with the timing. Thanks for taking the time to play it though!
I tried both of those, unfortunately it just wouldn’t work.
The calibration also sometimes said I was off by -2000ms… and other times I was off by 60ms, or 120ms, or etc.
yikes, yeah I don't know what the issue is there. Normally if its off for me at least, it stays relatively consistent. Now I'm thinking I should have added a downloadable to help dodge all the issues that come with browser stuff...
Thanks for trying, at least!
Creative and well designed!
I especially like how the menu buttons beat too lol
Thanks, I'm proud of that little detail
Very cool idea! It's not easy hah. You should try to develop this further after the event, when you have more time :D
Thank you! Yeah, I know it can be challenging, which is why I added an easy mode in the settings, but I think I didn't advertise it well enough lol.
I really liked the concept! Good job!
Thanks!
Simple but as rhythim game lover this is sooo good! Loved the upgrades and rougelike elements! So much fun! :)
Glad you liked it!
A great rhythm entry! I like how the core of it was kept nice and simple with complexity given with the upgrades. I'm quite impressed with the inclusion of being able to replay your rhythm as well, and the game itself was responsive and felt good to play. Tutorial was well made, but I feel it could be improved by spacing information out by giving the player time to test mechanics introduced - for me it was a little bit of too much information at once and a lot of it ended up being me figuring things out as I went. Game was also quite artistically clean and consistent, I think there's lots you can do with this post jam.
Great work! Rhythm games are not easy to make especially for a jam :)
Thanks so much for the thoughtful critique! Especially after how much effort you put into your game :). I agree with your note on the tutorial - I probably should have had some friends look at it to see if it was doing its job right. Thanks for the compliments on the art! What you saw was about the extent of my art skills in terms of detail/complexity, so I'm glad it turned out looking good at all. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing Hickory in the winners!
A fun game, with a surprising amount of depth.
Even after calibration (and on a very low latency audio interface) I still felt out of sync, an issue I don't normally have with Rhythm games. Perhaps I'm just very bad at this particular one >.<
It's very run regardless though! I feel like implementing a music system might make the game more enjoyable then it already is.
Thanks! If only I knew how to make music lol. Yeah, the syncing is touch and go sometimes - you can adjust it manually in the settings, or you can turn on the easy timing windows option, and not have to worry about being a little off.
This is awesome nice game !
Thank you!
Like others, i also missed the tutorial to begin with. i guess our instinct is always just to press "play" first thing we do haha! I was admittedly still a bit confused after playing the tutorial, unsure if it was because it was unclear or too long, but i definitely had forgotten or misremembered most of it when i started actually playing. When i finally figured it out, it was definitely an interresting concept for a rythm game, and i really appreciate the inclusion of the calibrating tool. Overall really nice!
Thanks for playing it! Yeah, Its a bit of a rule heavy game, for sure. so I get the confusion!
so simple but perfect
CAN YOU TRY MY GAME and give me your comment
Thanks so much! I rate everyone who comments here, so yes! (That being said I am currently rate limited by itch, so I can't leave a comment to go with the rate unfortunately)
Smart idea ! Maybe need more onboarding on the start for where to click and stuff, but it's okay. Congrats !
Thanks! I'm curious, did you watch the tutorial/how to play? I know it didn't call out where to click explicitly, but I'm curious to know if the tutorial wasn't helpful enough, since I put a bunch of time into it. (Not that I blame anyone for skipping over it, its totally understandable and I've done it on other games lol)
OH there was a tutorial, I didn't notice the button with the bouncing sry !! I just replayed it and it's way more clear, except for the click I think many can think we have to click on the blinking tick at the right time
You're so valid for that, I've blown past tutorials myself in some of these games. I also just added a note to the controls on itch saying you can click anywhere, as well! (not that people will necessarily look at that either, lol)
Really cool FL Studio channel rack + roguelite vibe, like it! Just a small note: at first glance, it's a bit unclear where to click—maybe add an offset shadow to the main button so it stands out more.
Thanks you! There's actually no button you have to click to play (other than the title screen buttons and the pause button). You can click anywhere on the game and it will work!
Pretty interesting, the power ups add complexity, but it might be too hard to keep track of some of them while you're trying to also decide if you're going to tick/tock the next beat.
Hearing your own rhythm was a nice touch and the timing was on point, it must've taken a lot of syncing.
Not sure if that's above or below average, but I made round 13 by just ignoring all the scoring, getting generic buffs that didn't depend as much on timing and order and hitting the right arrow key on beat.
Thanks for playing! Its a fair point about keeping track of the perks. Thats why I added the score previews, but they don't really give you all the details, I guess. Round 13 is pretty good, it takes some work to get past that, even for me.
I definitely had to use the easy mode unfortunately XD I loved it, and the mechanic of adding powerups to your rhythm (and hearing it) was really really neat! And it was a neat visual touch that everything pulsed with the rhythm even in the menus!
I can't say I chose powerups with much thought, I'm sure there are some really great synergies but I reckon I'd have to play it a few times to start picking up on how to properly choose and arrange powerups to get the most out of them.
Great game, well done!
Thank you! Easy mode is there for a reason, I know the timing can be precise for people, especially for a web game! I'm just glad you knew it existed, that took a bit of work figuring out how to make people see that. Honestly, I think choosing perks so that they just make a fun groove is as valid a way as playing as optimizing them!
The rhytm part is hard when you have timing skills but the careful placement of notes can really help your odds. I eventually got to round 13.
Nice! That's farther than I usually get in a run!
I just wanna say, I played your game and I really, really loved it! Itch rate limited me, so I can't give a comment on your game's page, so I'll say it here. The game was absolute amazing, and the level design was incredible! I don't know how you made such great levels while being limited to such specific shapes, but you guys nailed it. I think Mark is gonna fall in love with this one, for sure! Great job!
Nice, after playing another entry which was a rythm game I trohugh that rythm and roguelike could go nicely :D. This one was quite hard as the correect timing window was so low(I know there was a setting for easier), but hard to see feedback why or not it was missed. Great entry!
Thank you! Yeah, I should have thought to make the easy timing option more clear to players in game, but never thought to realize most people don't look in the Settings menu for fun lol. I'm glad to see you saw that it existed though, thats one of the things that I spent a lot of time tweaking my itch page to figure out how to make it clear after the fact.
God I love buildcraft, and this game handles it so well; really addictive to build up over a few rounds, especially once the timing was nailed. Could definitely see an expanded version where all sorts of twists get added to the wheel timings and such. Awesome!
Thank you, that's great to hear!
The build variety makes planning ticks and tocks and then seeing your plan pay off by cutting off a good chunk of the countdown with a single tock really satisfying. I also like how the simplicity of the graphics contrasts with the increasing mechanical and musical complexity.
Thanks! The simple graphics are mostly a representation of my very limited art skills lol, but glad you liked them!
So creative! This became addictive so fast, and long runs became actually so fun. The upgades are also super crazy to play with. Congrats!!
Thank you so much! I know I have fun playing it, but that doesn't mean others will, so I'm glad to hear you liked it!
