How does your game fit the theme?
9 Cards to Midnight is a card game, where the number in a factory is what activates the cards, but the number is always going down, on it's own or by our actions to get money out of the factory. In the game your factory is reforesting instead of consuming the land.

really fun, i was hooked. sometimes i would get messed up by putting a card and it automatically going to the top when i wanted it to be under another card, but its fine i learned. super cool!
Really impressive stuff!
The concept and execution is very good.
I like the music and the gameplay feels nice.
I enjoyed playing the game, but it was a bit too random, so it would be nice to be able to somehow manipulate the incoming cards somehow.
Well done! :D
Really cool incremental game :) Like others have pointed out, the progression is a bit slow. Once you get the faster cards upgrades, it really gets fun! I still wish you got a few more of those upgrades faster, especially once you get your second factory. The sound effects are very nice and the music is relaxing, with a touch of urgency that I really like! Well done overall!
Really really interesting concept, and a good implementation of it. it is a simple but is a really nice incremental game.
Though the gameplay leaves much to be desired. It took me like 5 minutes to finally get what I was supposed to do, as in have the card number be same as the timer. I was under the impression that it was the +/- number that needed to be subtracted in the slot.
The progression is also very slow. It takes several runs just to get another factory. That could definitely be touched on.
The UI though simple and works, could be improved. Especially the card placements in the slots. And the game end is also delayed for some reason without any reason for the wait.
I do like the overall shop and the progression system, just wish it was faster.
We hear you. We already have a build waiting for the voting period to end with:
And we are working on:
Thank you for playing the game and for all the feedback! It's some really high quality feedback.
Not an excuse, but we actually made the game faster before shipping to the game jam, but we just didn't have enough time to balance a fast enough initial experience.
I shall check out the post jam build then. Good luck with it
Really cool idea and I had a lot of fun playing :)
It ramps up very slowly though, it takes a lot of time to get to multiple factories where the real fun starts. Also - maybe I had some bad luck (or can't play the game, lol) but most of my early seasons were pretty quick (I was unlucky to get cards that gain time).
Also - maybe I don't get something (I probably don't :D) but I don't get the title, it looks like one made for entirely different game :D
Hi thanks for playing our game :D.
Yeah we will make it have faster progression once the voting period ends.
About the name, it's based in the Doomsday Clock and the concept "Seconds to Midnight" that's how close we are to the end of humanity. In this case you are fighting the end of times by using the factories for reforestation instead of other stuff. So that's why the background get's greener. We were going to add an intro message, but we run out of time.
Well that's morbid :D
Thank you for taking the time to explain that, makes sense now.
great game! very engaging and the system is very depth for a jam game. The only thing that I didn't like (but isn't even a bad thing) is the duration, I played about 1 and a half hour and didn't reach the final goal of $9999 before I gave up.
I really liked this game and it would be very cool if you keep developing the game after the jam.
I enjoyed the concept, but I did find it a bit impenetrable (who has the time for tutorials, right?)
I’d like to try a future version with a bit more of an on ramp!
Will definitely update the game after the Jam locking period to add some on boarding, We did add a tutorial video on the page.
feels like card games are only made by geniuses! super cool, math is everything xd
We are not genius, but we did have fun an pour a lot of love into this strange math-time-card game. We are still struggling to make it feel easier to understand and easier to interact with.
I got my two machine! Good concept matching the theme, well done!
thanks :D
Great game, loved it! You also made that every play through is for a way to better update like mine :D Is goal locked and will open after timer control?
Timer Control is important, should have made it cheaper, what really changes the game is getting a bigger factory, where they count up to 99 and you can actually get 10x a card effect if you put it under the second digit.
very relaxing presentation. i can see myself getting sucked into it for sure!
I feel like this game has some potential but I am not the target audience. It has a nice relaxing presentation though!
Really sweet game design, love me a deck-builder!
The one thing that caused friction was having to wait for the timer to tick down at the end of a dead run - I know time controls are an upgrade, but I think having those as a quality of life feature might be a better shout :) overall solid game, gj!
Thank you for playing ourgame :D.
Yeah, we wanted to have an snap to next card button, or have a finish round now button, but alas, we ran out of time. It is definetly one element we know we need to improve.
Very clean design, very good concept. It needs a bit of balancing, perhaps, but that is to be expected of all jam entries. I love that it was immediately readable and understandable.
This is a really clever idea, but eventually it felt like the amount of money I made was totally dependent on the order I draw my cards. Sometimes I'd be stuck with nothing but high cards and forced to watch each tower dwindle away. I also wish there was a way I could queue-up cards to be played after the one I already placed, but every time I tried it, the new card took priority over the old one and I missed my chance.
But like I said, it's a very cool mechanic and I think with some tuning it could become really addictive and engaging!
Nice incremental deck builder! It felt polished, scope was perfect for the 4 day jam. Nice job!!
Thanks darkfenix! :D
The concept is really nice and simple to understand, especially thanks to the instructions.
The upgrades add a lot to the core gameplay, but I think it could use some balancing sometimes, especially concerning the card spawn speed (even after the upgrade), because I often didn't have anything to do and could only wait and hope for a good card.
I don't know if that's the case but it feels a bit like the game is sometimes trying to give us the card we want, but not fast enough (at one point I got a 5 when the timer displayed 4, a 3 when it displayed 2 and a 1 when it displayed 0).
I got a cool moment where I could do a combo and go from a 1 to a 9 and then place my 9! So I would have loved the opportunity for more cool moments, and be a bit more overwhelmed by cards.
I did have a lot of fun playing, great job to the team!
Thank you for your comments! The best part for me is getting the factories to count up yo 999 and interact with the bigger digits for 10 times or a 100 times the reward :). But you know, it is true that in the first levels the game does sometimes mock you xD, but we just programmed it to be true random.
Oh I didn't get that far but it indeed seemed that the further upgrades were adding a lot to the core experience. I could see that with how simply having two factories changed a lot the dynamic and how I had to approach the game.
If it's true random, I was just very unlucky that one time then xD
Thanks for the answer!
