I think this can be easily expanded upon, its a great concept. The art and music were also top-tier. Great work!

This might be the first iteration of blackjack that makes me have fun. It still has a lot of the frustrating parts of blackjack tho. The gamble mechanic with replacing cards is great. Tbh, I'd like to see a game with these mechanics, but as far of blackjack as possible.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, glad you had fun with it (in spite of the blackjack!). We did consider building a completely unique card game from the ground up with the same gambling mechanic but figured that'd be a bit too ambitious for 4 days of work. Perhaps if we all have time to return to it in future we can build it out a bit more, there were lots of ideas that didn't make it in

lasted 28 years! thanks for making this game, i had a blast

Developer(+1)

that's incredible! The furthest I've ever made it was 20 years, you might be the reigning champion :D Thanks so much for playing, glad you liked it!

I really loved the idea of treating the cards as the years of your life. Trying to get close to 21 was already tense, but gambling for trick cards made every decision feel even more dangerous 😄 I kept telling myself not to risk another year… and then gambled again anyway. The bold art style and the “A YEAR PASSES” transitions gave the game so much personality. Really memorable concept!

The visual style of the game is amazing. Like really well done, crazy this was done in four days. I enjoyed the game, it was fun! Would love to see this expanded on, especially a version where my choices feel like they have some more weight

Really amazing work! :)

Developer

Thanks for your feedback, we had many plans to do more interesting extensions and combos, we might do so after the jam rating is over.

Wow this art is almost too good for only 4 days. Very impressive and I was immersed in the gameplay the whole time. Great job!!!

Y'all did some really good work. An interesting take on basic blackjack, beautiful art (definitely one of my favorite renditions of death), and the audio really hits that ear bleeding of the old Atari (in a good way). My only wishes are that there were some more "animated" parts to it, and maybe some story, even if its something small.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback. We definitely wanted to do more animation but ran out of time. We're thinking that after the voting ends we might keep polishing this

I really love the art style on that one. I played my first game waaaay back in the 90s and the whole vibe transports me right back to my childhood. Fitting, really, considering the themes of the game and that I ended up loosing 43 years to Death — almost my exact age )
I also liked that the game does not require much explanation. I'm not much of a cards guy, but still I managed to understand what's going on immediately. I had some confusion with twist and gamble, but it wasn't much of hassle to figure out.
Overall I really enjoyed my time with this game.

Developer

Thank you so much for is very lovely comment, your feedback is much appreciated.

I like the art style the cards remind me of the tarot cards from cyberpunk. I think the music fits the style too. It is addictive, like gambling, well done :D

Developer

thanks for playing, we had a lot of fun designing and making the art so I'm glad you liked it!

Great Stuff, i am not a fan of the soundscape, but i adore the drawn art! Interesting Game concept, though it lacks a bit of "decision" regarding the gambling cards. They feel simply like a way to improve your health, which for me wasnt even necessary by playing well and drawing lucky.

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback. Yeah, we wanted to add more deterministic and skill-based stuff like card combos (some of which would've required trick cards), but we ended up scoping them out to make sure we had something that felt finished on time. If we pick the project back up we'll try to improve that :)

I do love me some gambling 😈. I like the premise of a blackjack game with two different decks where one of them are like consumable power-ups. One thing I wish the game had is that I love playing fast in card games like Balatro and Slay the Spire, so I wish there was a setting for making the dealing and card revealing a lot faster. Good game!

Developer(+1)

hehe, glad you enjoyed our game, and thanks for leaving feedback! There's a lot we didn't have time to polish, so it's always good to know what we can improve on :)

Came into this expecting a game I could win, but the game punished me for my hubris, for thinking I could beat death. It's clever.

Developer

thanks so much for playing! i'm sure it's possible to win, but the furthest i've personally managed to get is 20 years :') Glad you liked the narrative too, since we didn't have time to build out much of a story we thought we should focus on the metaphorical angle.

Submitted

Same. That hoody IS tough! :) I think I managed to win one or two rounds )

Submitted

Yeah. I won quite a few rounds, but it's like "Hell yeah, I got 4 years." and then death gets 21 next round and takes 16. T_T

Beautiful game, though it's a little hard to understand how it works. Great take on the theme though!

Developer

thanks for playing, and for leaving feedback. We did have more of a tutorial written up but didn't have time to integrate it all. If we carry on with the project we'll definitely work a bit more on the onboarding experience!

Thank you so much for the feedback.

Nice take on the theme although a better formulated goal would be more satisfying imo. Nice entry, very nice visuals

The art is gorgeous! I really enjoyed the gambling mechanic and figuring out how to get to a perfect score to ensure a win. Cool twist on blackjack!
