Nice job! Really liked the interpretation of the theme in this game :D

The controls were a little unresponsive, but that issue plagues all snake-type games.

I really enjoyed, after a few levels in, the moment when I realized that bosses could take up to 8 hits at once if you circle around them with enough bombs. Took it from a nearly impossible game back to just a difficult one. By the last stage, I felt competent. That satisfying kind of progression is rare, especially in short games. Great job!

Great job on your submission! Congratulations on the great work and on such a creative idea for fitting the game jam theme.

I really liked the penguin character design. It has a lot of personality and fits the game really well. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you, that is very nice of you

This was a tough one! Between how fast the player goes, and the snake controls not letting you double back on yourself even without bombs, I died a lot. Still, I had fun playing it and the mechanics mesh together very well. I think the chain reaction explosions is the thing that ties it all together - it forces you to act fast if you pick up a low-number bomb, to have to watch out for bombs on the ground the longer your trail is, it lets you quickly detonate more when the boss moves, etc!

Sweet! Thanks for sharing your experience. We are very glad to hear you found a good strategy and you had fun playing!

Suuuuper satisfying game! Quite diifcult but I did manage to beat it. Getting huge streaks of bombs and placing them just right feels amazing. Great take on the theme! Penguin Hero will remember this day!

Thats awesome! Thanks for the kind words. We are very happy to hear you liked the game and embraced the bombing mayhem

Hey! My team also made a riff on snake and bomberman, so really wanted to see what y’all cooked up! Your game is really great! Definitely on the difficult side, but I did manage to beat it eventually. I appreciated the flashing red areas, and suspect the game would be nearly impossible without those, since it’s often a 1 several spaces away that sets off a bomb near you.

The idea of needing to keep track of a bunch of different bombs, all on different timers, is a really unique one, and keeps it interesting. You can collect a bunch of high numbers to have some breathing room, but then collect a low number on purpose to make a bombing run, or by accident and have a crisis on your hands, haha!

Loved the artwork and the writing. Honestly, all the “penguin will” statements were what kept me going to the end. Who am I to argue with fate?

Developer

Lol nice! Thanks for sharing your experience, it's great to hear you appreciated the bomb mayhem and all of its nuances. Thanks for the review!

Penguin Hero will remember me.
This game is quite difficult, especially because of the snake controls and the amount of bombs present. However, the mechanics are actually quite interesting. At first glance, bombs blowing up adjacent bombs is a pretty obvious feature, but it ends up being really important for properly chaining combos and creates a risk/reward factor where you want to create a big chain of bombs to attack, but need to do so without blowing yourself up in the process.

Developer(+1)

Thats great! Penguin Hero will not forget. Thanks for the review!

Wow this was hard. The player ends up moving really fast so I found that the actual best way to do things was to just dodge everything, and eventually the bosses will get hit by themselves, so strategy was never really a viable plan of attack. Great idea though!

Controls were also a bit unfortunate, I kept on hitting a key to switch directions, but I basically always felt like I was moving 1 square after when I pressed the key :(

Penguin Hero will submit rating. Penguin Hero will write a review. Penguin Hero enjoyed the setting, although this particular Penguin Hero had a bit of struggles with crashing into things - mostly skill issues ;) Nice game idea!

Developer

Penguin Hero will rejoice! Tanks for the review!

Penguin!! Super fun game, great work (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)ゞ

Developer

Thank you, fellow penguin!

That was fun even though it needed a bit getting used to how everything worked together. I feel like this is the type of simple but expansive mechanic that has lot of room to grow and explore different ideas. Awesome game!

Developer

Nice! Thanks for the review! Happy to hear you found it fun

Well done, pretty good game. I think that the difficulty curve could use tweaking. I spent a really long time trying to beat the first level and thought this must be the entire game. I was so shocked to see a second level, given how hard the first was.

Developer

Lol, it is pretty challenging in its current form. We are thinking of adding a couple of difficulty settings post-jam to help players adapt to the mayhem gradually. We are glad you stuck to it long enough to find the second level. Thanks for the review!

Good work, a difficult start, but with time you get the hang of it

Developer

Thanks! Well done on keeping at it. Thanks for giving it a good try, and for the review!

Love this!

The penguin is so cute, and I really enjoy the dropping of the bombs. I only made it to the 3rd level, but it has a good challenge and good replayability.

Well done!

Developer

Nice! Thanks for the kind words. We are glad you enjoyed playing it

Really fun twist on snake! Wish there was a "baby difficulty" so I could stand a chance of getting past the first level

Developer(+1)

I also advocate for a baby penguin difficulty mode. Sounds like a good idea for a post-jam improvement.

Thanks for the review

Masterwork! To many bombs(aahh), made it a stressfull almost snake like experience. Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you! The bombs are crazy, I tell ya!

Submitted(+1)

Cool game, a little hard to actually master, it's not easy to keep an eye on every bomb on the ground, however, I liked it, it doesn't get boring, and the music is nice, I also love penguins, so, I like this game for this reason too. Well done!

Developer

Thank you! You should have seen it when we had no warning indicators on bombs that are about to blow up. It was another level of craziness!

Submitted(+1)

The game gives good old arcade vibes and a bit hard in the start had to master it a bit and sometimes too many keys become hard to handle but ye the difficulty makes it more good and the art and music is also ver good!

Developer

Thats awesome! Thank for the kind words. We are glad you liked it
