This is so good! You totally nailed the aesthetic here, right out the gate with those perfect windows. The real treat though is how much stuff there is to explore—a little gag packed into every corner, like e-ink depletion and how the move button moves. I love the Geode button. After I beat the game I had to go back in and see what else I’d missed—I didn’t use the rewinder or the rest options the first time. I only just now apprehended Mr. Assistable. Everything here is so funny and so polished! Fantastic work.
This game is fantastic, love the humor and the old-school Windows feel was perfect. There were so many buttons and fun little things to do, I spent my entire first attempt just pressing every button and slider I could find to see what would happen. The whole thing is very creative and I had a ton of fun with this one!
this submission is full of personality, so creative and fun ! nice job !!
Countdown -> Y2K office countdown is a great idea. Going all the way with the 2000's artstyle to match it is also great. Good job!
creative game. little confusing in the begining but once I got the hang of it pretty addicting.
This was a really good puzzle game. I liked that there were multiple solutions to the different problems of how do I get stuff off page. The art style is great and so is the humor. This is a game I would definitely recommend to my friends.
absolutely loved this! took me three tries but i saved new year. great idea, executed incredibly well, super funny and charming. super glad i found this one great work
A really fun premise - I must admit that I missed some of details on my first go and had to refresh the page to remind myself what I was meant to do. Not a major issue, but what you might call mildly inconvenient.
Overall, the game was excellent! I pressed almost every button just to see what would happen, and even getting Mr Assistable arrested was a delightful touch. I loved the odd take on all of the different tasks that needed to happen. A really creative concept, very well-made game and a fun experience!
I loved all the funny little interactions of the tools and options! Overall its a really fun and polished experience! My only complaint is that I can't decapitate Mr. Assistable.
Very cool game! Insane work on the intricacies, and excellent frustrating experience of win 98 era. Great work!
Loved all the little details, was a lot of run going around clicking and trying everything. Great sense of humor and a Y2K countdown is such a good take on the theme. Great submission!
Love the attention to detail on this one to truly capture the idiosyncrasies of 90s PC software. The game had a great sense of humor and I could easily see it be expanded upon. Great work!
The details are insane. I'm sure I didn't try everything, but I tried a whole lot of stuff and the unique responses for each? Just wow. This whole game is just oozing with charm and style and silliness. The fact that you can try to apprehend the boss is so funny. Succeeding to apprehend Mr. Assistable is so funny. The moving button, the beheadings (shameless plug we also have guillotines), the fact that you can change music parameters, International exports being closed because it's New Years, it's all just so clever. Really great work.
So many great details!!
Very pleasantly surprised with this game! I was not expecting to laugh so hard haha. Awesome concept, very nostalgic yet refreshing. Would totally play a full length version of this game! Our game is also themed around incompetent office workers, if you'd like to give it a whirl. Great job team!!
Honestly this feels closer to real life than it does satire. I'm 99% sure I've had to do similar things, on similar archaic pieces of software in the public sector.
This is hilarious though. I think comedy is so hard to pull off in general in games, and you've smashed it out of the park. It's weird, wonderful and just the right level of unhinged. Loved it, thank you.
Very creative entry, enjoyed it a lot! I think you would love https://www.reddit.com/r/badUIbattles/ ;)
I also might have found a bug: I dyed my text red and "extracted bleeding text", but then later "resurrected" the document. After that, I was not able to properly extract bleeding text anymore, even though it was red already.
Yeah, bad UI battles was defs an inspiration, I was hoping to fit in more little widgets that would've followed that style but run outta time.
Yikes, I knew about that bug but totally forgot to fix it x_x
That was a wild experience and also a lot of nostalgia. It took me two tries to figure out enough of the unconventional UI but I didn’t mind it much. I think I would personally have enjoyed it even more without the time count-down (though I understand why it was important for the theme). There was a lot of stuff in there, but with the silliness of this type of game I always want more, more give me more unique things to discover!
Play-through:
Thanks for playing, really appreciate you taking the time to record a playthrough! It was great fun to watch. I actually agree about the timer, I wish I had figured out a smarter way to incorporate the theme mechanically, but I hoped having the rewinder would offset that a bit. We definitely had plenty of other interactions and secrets planned, hopefully we'll find the time to get them in post-jam!
The rewind helped a lot and it was a funny thing! Maybe the timer could have been tied to the actions I took rather than actual clock time, like I think it is now.
Will there be a port for VirtualBox?
I had no idea what I was doing but was somehow still having a great time 😂😂
