Quite easy to understand the concept and to test things. Maybe not having to click retry each time would be a plus but that is actually the only drawback I see.

Really enjoyed playing and finishing it.

this is absolutely amazing, the polish on those visuals is so clean, in terms of art direction this is incredibly cohesive, the story has that perfect daunting end of the world vibe, it's very pretentious but I love that about it

honestly no faults whatsoever, except the fact that you're starting to get so invested in the mechanics and the game ends leaving you wanting more, which is obviously a non issue, the puzzle design is just that good

amazing stuff, congrats :>

Developer(+1)

Always leave 'em wanting more, it's simple marketing. I definitely didn't run out of time and have to cut the rest of the levels, noooo no haha that would be so silly, no it was just really good marketing... I could have had 10 levels and a boss encounter if I really wanted, I just didn't want that, who would want that?? aha. ha... :(((

lmaoo

ok but that just shows you focused on the right thing, getting more levels is always exciting as a dev but it's so much more exponentially important to focus on getting the experience polished and packaged in a way that'll leave a good impression even if it's shorter than they anticipated

Submitted(+1)

The only negative flaw for this game is that it's too short! XD

Being able to draw a line to stop or deflect projectiles is pretty unique, and having to survive multiple attacks with a limited amount makes for a great puzzle! My only pick is that the game doesn't explain properly how you're supposed to place more than one, but other than that I loved it!

Here's the VOD (game is at 0:10:00)

I did play this on stream but my 1am brain struggled so will return in the morning!

Developer(+1)

Hey no worries mate, understandable. Puzzle games with unfamiliar mechanics that aren't well explained + tired brain is not a great match!

I can guess where confusion came up because of how it evolved during development... the unintuitive part is that there are 2 separate interactions distinct in their use but mechanically similar: first you have the numbered beats, these define when an enemy will attack and when you can draw a contradiction (which you select via the numerals), then there is the timeline scrubber (just below the numerals) that you use to preview the outcome within the context of each beat, you can use this to line up your redirects precisely and get a full idea of how your plan is shaping up.

Basically the beats were the original design and the scrubber came later to solve some annoyances and I didn't have a precedent to fall back on for how to setup the UI/HUD to make this clear and simply ran out of time to properly figure it out! Tried my best with the page description, but yeh - apologies!

Came back and beat the last two levels! Adjusted my score too!

Submitted(+1)

Can't wait to see more levels, it was soooo good!!!

Developer

Thank you for playing! It was worth the wait, we do it for the love of the game!

Submitted(+1)

REALLY liked the gameplay of this one. good fun. would love more levels. had heaps of fun playing on stream!!

Developer(+1)

Hi Tim, Tim here, thanks for playing and your kind feedback.

Loved watching you play and how much it resonated, I guess it really is Tim-coded, wish I could've provided more levels for you to enjoy!

Very cool puzzle game with some cool potential! The aesthetics are great and the few puzzles that are there are well designed and scare in difficulty nicely. I just wish there was a bit more to it as the game ends before the puzzle design really starts kicking in full force, but as a showcase I had a great time. Also the controls for swapping which contradiction to draw are very awkward but I'm sure there's plenty of ways to polish it with enough time!

Thank you so much for playing!

Agree with your feedback, the lack of control clarity/intuitiveness is definitely the biggest disappointment for me. It traces back to the timeline/scrubber addition which wasn't part of the original design (it was just the beats originally), but I think is what really makes the core mechanics shine... So I'm glad it's there, just wish I had thought of it from the start so the HUD/controls were better considered as a whole!

this made me wake up, actually had to put my sleepy brain to it! Thanks loll

Developer(+1)

Oh god I'm so sorry for waking you up, I hate waking up, that's the worst part of sleeping!

Thank you for playing despite your sleepy brain!

Nice work on Final Contradiction! Nice job keeping the scope together as a solo project. I liked the look of the game and how it set the mood. VERY INTERESTING MECHANIC

Developer

If you saw the development process you would know I did not keep anything together hahaha

But thank you very much for playing and your feedback. I'm glad you appreciated the mechanic, I know it wasn't not clearly presented so I appreciate you taking the time to figure it out!

Submitted(+1)

Great idea! And well executed. I liked that I could preview the effect of my lines

This puzzle game really got me thinking! I had to work through all the levels, and that's awesome! Also, the music is a special thanks, it’s great! Thanks for such a fun game! It's pleasant, makes you think and partly relax?)

Developer

I'm glad it made you think and also partly relax haha. That's a good mix I think.

Thank you for playing!

Very interesting game! Super atmospheric and the mechanics are really cool. I can see this could have potential for being expanded, also quite impressive for a solo dev, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and also for seeing the vision; there was a lot I wanted to do with this to progress through levels and difficulty.

Submitted(+1)

This truly was... The final contradiction.
OK all jokes aside great game, got me puzzling for a while at points and I only wish that it had more time to get more levels, which is no fault of the developer. Great fun, would reccomend.

Developer(+1)

I'm willing to accept at least 50% fault. There were definitely  a few choices made that didn't help get more levels/polish in. The rest was simply the will of the cosmos, lets go with that.

Thank you for playing and your feedback!

What a great game! The visuals and atmosphere is incredible, but my highlight has to be the gane design itself. The game gave me the same feeling I get when I play Into the Breach, where I need to thoroughly assess each level and carefully strategize my moves. I truly think you've done an outstanding job here!

The only thing I had trouble with was understanding the mechanics at first, so I think the game would benefit hugely from an in game tutorial. However, once I understood how the mechanics worked, the game really shined for me. You did a really great job!

Developer (2 edits)

Fully agree about a tutorial, as much as I hate them it probably needed one. Part of the problem was the original design only had the beats, it wasn't until 2 days in I realised how painful and silly it was to have to manually hardcode the charger position/timing separately for every level to make sure they were hittable mid-charge (while also being extremely tricky to line up the shots) so I added the whole timeline scrubbing system.

Then I had the issue of two similar, but mechanically separate, concepts and no existing plan to distinguish them to the player, plus a lot of time spent adding a fairly complicated system to my "basic input mechanic" plan lol. I just didn't have time to properly rethink the onboarding/HUD to make it nice and clear.

A great game, good puzzle with thinking outside the box

Really creative puzzle game! Just find an artist to work with and you're golden ;)

Submitted(+1)

Really nice puzzler. I love games where you draw lines, I must admit. Feels like this would go hard on the Nintendo DS! Would love to see an expanded game with more concepts and interactions if it's on the cards for you.

Also idk how to explain it but I just love the vibe. I like when weird nouns are used for things. Like lines are consistently "contradictions" and failstates are consistently "inevitabilities". It does a lot to immerse me in the expression rather than being overly gamic.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and your kind words!

I had a lot more thoughts and plans to expose the narrative in the ways you are describing, but those are more or less all that made it in without getting cut to finish the game itself haha. The idea was that the opposing entity is acting through declaring inevitabilities and reality manifests it via the beats (which are called edicts behind the scenes but I didn't get round to a good way of revealing that without it getting confusing) which you then contradict.

There was supposed to be a "boss" level and everything, but you know, jam and life things happened lol. Glad you vibed with it!

That was really fun , a unique approch to countdown team and fun puzzle that required my brain to work XD ,GG

Submitted(+1)

Just unlocked new brain cells ! was fun !

Submitted(+1)

Using 100% of my brain cells to figure out how to win. Cool concept.
