This is very ambitious, impressive that you managed to put all this together in such a short time. The mirror mechanic is very interesting and the retro style fits very well. Almost like a zelda game on the atari. Good job on this!

Thank you so much!

I really really really loved this game, it's so charming and so much fun! It feels like there's a really well-crafted world here, and I had such a great time exploring. I'll definitely be coming back to play more!

Great work, Lily!

Developer

Thank you! I’ll be making a post-jam update to fix some bugs and typos, add a couple features, and touch up the graphics

Nice narrative and characters. Very impressive to do this in 4 days!

Who knew that flavors could do so much damage?

Developer

Have you ever been punched in the face with the power of a lemon bar covered in hot sauce? I bet that’d hurt

Narrative games are hard to get done during a jam especially with decent art and I think this hits a perfect balance. The narrative was compelling and it was a very silly little game that was an overall enjoyable experience. I do think some of the dialogue is a bit too long so sprinkling in gameplay between or breaking it up with stuff to do would be a welcome addition. Otherwise good effort!

Developer

Thank you so much! As for the narrative thing - yeah, I tend to be a little long-winded… sorry about that! I’m glad you still liked the writing…

Actually weirdly enough while making the game I was scared the dialogue was too short and people would think I was lazy, hahaha…

Cute art style and nice narrative/dialogue

I really like the art style. The narrative is very cute, kinda comedic esp with the naming and the whole situation.

Developer

Thank you!

I love the game's art style. I found the fighting mechanics to be quite complicated but manageable. Good job! Adding to my collection.

Developer

Thank you… there’s a couple bugs with fighting and it’s totally unbalanced so there’ll be a post jam balance/bugfix patch. Thank you for enjoying!

Alright so:
- The graphics/audio is giving it a very retro NES feel and I love that. I love the pink book as a save-system too.
- Controls weren't immediately obvious, which initially deterred me
- I love the pixel graphics but it was hard to make out individual objects/characters since all the colours were very bright
- The dialogue/conversation with the elder in the tree hollow was way too long, very text-heavy. I'll be honest, I zoned out halfway.
That said, I love the implied narrative of this game, even if I wasn't able to play much of it/got stuck very quickly. Would love to see more of this, if you decide to improve! (I love anything with fantasy/fairies/retro graphics)

Oh no… This game is a lot of reading, unfortunately… one of the main mechanics is dialogue…

Sorry about the colors… a black outline around objects may have helped… Thank you for your feedback! I really love fantasy stuff too :D

You're welcome! 😄

The retro style is nice but I wish the colors were a little less bright and eye-strainey? It might be worth adding a photosensitivity warning to the game given the flashing transitions. Otherwise intriguing story, the character dialogues are fun!

Developer(+1)

yeah, I was using the NES color palette… i had tested the transition with friends to see if it was too eye strainy and it seemed ok, but I’ll put a photosensitive warning in the description.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback on character dialogues! I’ll admit I wrote them 12 hours before the jam ended in a sleep deprived fervor so some of them are a little indulgent hahaha

Add the controls somewhere in the description of your itch.io page, it took me forever to realize you start the game with "z"

Developer

Done… Sorry about that… I added it to the first dialogue scene but forgot to add it to the main menu…

I really loved the experience. I wish I had more time to give the game to see if there is even more. You definitely have the most narrative of any game I have seen so far! I didn't really see my MP being used when I used abilities but we all have bugs (or maybe I'm blind). I'm really impressed with all of the mechanics, systems, and art you fit in! I can't tell what you built this in. Feel free to let me know if you don't mind!

Developer

uh oh i totally forgot to subtract MP when you used abilities. 😭

The game is so interesting. I liked it. But I think you need to do something with artwork. The colors are very bright, and at times I couldn't tell where I could pass and where I couldn't. Nice work.

Developer

Thank you! Sorry about the artwork… I locked myself into an NES style at the beginning and I probably should’ve used thicker outlines and more colors… kind of hacked it a bit instead of being such a stickler.
