WOAHHH this is so awesome!! really satisfying sound design and subtle, beautiful visuals. Every aspect of this game compliments the other perfectly. Really polished and an all-around stunning jam submission.

This like inscryption but with death and chess and I'm HERE FOR IT !!!

The amount of cards, polish and upgrades yall made in 4 days is just incredible. My floor is jawed.

Woah. this is very polished for a 4 day jam. Great job

This is a surprisingly polished game. I could easily see this becoming a full release on Steam. I get slight Inscryption vibes from this, but it's also uniquely its own thing (with the classic elements of chess, of course).

I'm not entirely sure about the current balance. Random cards can be almost unusable, as they would risk putting me in an awful position (or they do), and then I'm waiting for better cards but watch the timer run out. And I understand the timer being there in accordance to the jam theme, and it obviously ties into the theme of playing against Death as well, but I also wanted to build a strategy and have the time to do so (and couldn't with the random cards). I think the game might need to push in either direction more (fast-paced strategy with time pressure, or slow meticulous strategy without a timer) and provide the cards for that type of gameplay.

Also, ideally, I would have the first game/few games be pretty easy, just to teach the core mechanics and get the flow of the game. Thinking about Inscryption again, whose tutorial and early game are just perfect.

The overall look and feel of this game is amazing. Definitely worth continuing with.

The polish of this game is out of this world. Amazed by how you did that in only 4 days. So cool. The random output (moves) in a game with already random input (cards) feels a that you don't have enough control on it though.

This was really stylish! The chess/skull-map setup made the whole game feel cooler and bigger than I expected. I liked how every choice feels important, which fits the countdown theme really well. The dark fantasy look is clean too, not messy or overdone.

Also the title is just SO good lol. It made the game stick in my head immediately. I liked how the whole thing feels serious but still very readable. Very memorable game!

I think this game is great! The mechanics are interesting and the deckbuilding is fun. The random element of cards can be really annoying on pieces like the knight, where you could play two cards on a knight and it spends the turn going back and forth.  I ended up losing cause my tornado pushed my king in front of their queen and I couldn't respond. I love the art and sfx design of the game as well.

Blending chess, cards, and roguelike upgrades around a ticking pocketwatch is incredibly ambitious, and the cohesive art and animations make it feel remarkably polished!

it's such an crazy thing that a game like this was made for the jam. in such a short time and fun idea, alongside while also fitting the theme fairly well by all accounts this is just impressive and quite enjoyable. well done.

Guys its unbelievable this game was made for a jam in less than a week and HOURS before the deadline :0 I'm absolutely impressed with EVERYTHING about it, even tho I suck at the game hahaha but seriously I loved the menu, the artstyle, the music  and  audio, and the enemy's animation when you take too long

This entry is impressively polished for a Jam project, and the chess concept integrates perfectly with the countdown theme. The buckshot-roulette vibes from the camera angle are fantastic, and the animations are exceptionally well-executed. My only suggestion is to give the clock more presence: during gameplay, it feels passive. I want to experience the tension as time runs out. Maybe consider adding a red pulse effect to the screen with a little screen shake and a reverberating ticking sound to heighten the sense of urgency.

Brilliant graphics, brilliant animations, brilliant mechanics. I cannot believe how fully featured this is for a jam game. Such a smart main system with so much intricate strategy. If anything, and I'm sure this hand been mentioned, it's a little frustrating how much the base cards rely on randomness. But I suppose there isn't really a better option if you don't just want the game to become chess. Anyway, I had lots of fun with this, great entry :)

I just wanna say that one of your work in progress images on the discord inspired me to achieve the aesthetic of my own game.

You have made a full release game that is a lot of fun! Chess mechanics are always welcome.

You won, and I won too :D

The idea is fantastic and the level of polish is stunning. There's so much content here for a 4 day jam, incredible work.

However, I feel like the game is too random. Especially with some pieces. There are so many options for them to move, that some cards moving them in random direction cannot be predicted at all - this could potentially mean a lucky win or losing a piece or a totally useless move. This is a way of making strong pieces (such as queens and rooks) less viable, but... I don't know.

The most unfair thing though is random enemy positions at the start. This could mean, that you could lose valuable pieces at the very beginning without an opportunity to do anything.

I like that you get a lot after each game (card, piece(s) and relics) - this makes game more varied quickly.

Inspirations to Bergman's movie is top notch, however I think that there are way too many similarities to Slay the Spire (at lease relics could be named something else, you know :D).

I had a lot of fun playing it, though I can imagine somebody not into chess might give up way earlier ;)

I absolutely love this game!! It was so fun having a entire army of pawns and using the cascade card! I got to endless loop 3 and I would 100% play a full version of this game!
