This looks like a tabletop side-scrolling beat 'em up. I love side-scrolling beat 'em up (guess i'm old now?). People may tell you side-scrolling beat 'em up are gross or lazy or nothing special. Show them this work and enjoy their shame. That's a good work with a lot of intentionality and imamculate vibes, and emotions at stake.

Developer

thank you so much! I have ben morphing this mechanic idea with a couple different games

Submitted(+1)

Front and back make a big promise. And it’s not that the game is bad. It’s that the text and the picture hinted on so much more.

Developer

Thanks for the honest feedback! and yeah the time crunch was a decisive factor but there is already an expanded edition on the works as well as clearer language for the rules, just waiting for the voting to be done and the new version will be released

Would love to learn more about that world :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

This is actually happening in my WitchNun Seraphim world. I have a couple novels about it (Seraphim- Cherubim- Messenger Doves - RockSiege) and several of my Games happen there (RockSiege - OrckSiege- Dove ate butterflies -Banner of the Shamed Heroe) So you can read about them a bit more

Vibe and art are top tier! The game itself maybe a bit too simple for my liking. But It's tricky to nail with such little space! That cover art really has my imagination going.

Developer(+1)

thank you so much! I do have an extended version coming right up, this way whomever likes the quick game can get a snack and those who want the challenge get a whole meal

Quick and fun read! Love your art and the general vibes.

Developer

Thank you! Glad you like it!

I loved the cover (front and back), it sets a really strong vibe from the get-go. I had a hard time parsing the instructions. It probably mainly needs a few additional pages to flesh it out. I would honestly love if you wrote out the instructions more as you did the introducing paragraph. I think they're simple enough to afford that.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! And yes the detailed instructions are coming asap!

Some of my pics I used for the mashup

There's a lot of emotion in this that I really like. As others have said below the mechanics are a bit tricky to parse. The curse die gives everything a real sense of momentum and growing threat, but I think just a tiny bit more info at the start about scouts, movement, etc. would really help. Great premise, really cool art, gets across the idea of feeling both lonely and desperate but also powerful and determined really well.

Developer

Thank you so much! And yes, a more clear rules edition is coming as soon as voting passes, thanks for the feedback!

Another interesting solo game that I like to play and the premise is really cool.

Developer(+1)

thank you! Enjoy! Stop the swarm!

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely love the idea you took with the title, I'm a bit lost with the mechanics but I think it's still overall very fun!

Developer

thank you and thank you so much for the feedback! As soon as voting ends I will edit the mechanic rules text for better clarity

I really like the creative take here. I tried to play it, but I don't think I'm totally understanding it. Here's how it went:

  1. I rolled a D20 until I hit a brawl
  2. I rolled a 5 on my first roll - Rogue. I assume the terrain types are the rectangles vs. the ovals. So I move from space 1 to Space 4
  3. I rolled a 2 on my second roll - Brawl. There are no enemies to brawl nor are there scouts on the board
  4. I rolled a 6 on my Cursed D6 roll. The game is over, I can rest, I have saved the village.

Either I did a good job (or got lucky) or I fundamentally misunderstood something. I've reread the instructions and I don't see anything about adding swarms/scouts to the board before you start, so when I rolled Brawl basically right away, there was nothing to battle. I suspect maybe I'm missing something.

Either way, cool idea. I just think it could use a little more clarity or more detail in how to set up the board before you start.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! And yes I will be editing wording for clarity (and terrain types doh my bad) but you played the game the way it should be.
In resume, yeah you got super lucky. Imagine you are wandering the valleys where there are supposed to be creatures appearing. Bow in hand, attentive. You climb a couple hills and traverse some ditches, but you come empty handed. Bad luck? No. This means this people are safe, but you still need to find these creatures, you owe it to everyone you didn’t protect.

So what do you do? You keep wandering and get to a next location carrying the banner of the shamed hero…

oh and I do have the Nightmare mode expansion for it. I was just crunching time so decided to go with the basic game. Nightmare mode allows you to join the scouts, get their weapons , a boss battle and some more. But first need to get out my Onepagerpg for that jam as well

Submitted(+1)

Whoa, love the direction you went with this title. There is an immediate urgency to save the village.

Developer

Thank you so much Drew!

Beautiful work on the cover/banner art!

A fun lil system that seems pretty punishing at first glance, but definitely beatable with the 1-in-6 chance of saving the village after each brawl. Great enemy names/unit types- would LOVE to see an expanded version of this!

Developer(+2)

thank you so much! I do have an easier odds version but due to timecrunch panic went straight for the normal one first

Thanks for being awesome!

I think 1/6 odds is already more generous than a lot of people in the OSR would’ve started with lol
