solid scifi gig of the pulpiest kind, clear text, looks like a lot of fun

Cool sci-fantasy crawl with interesting takes on how to meld the two.

What I thought worked well

  • I like the concise big text. Less is more and it was very easy to read.
  • Visitors-to-Diminished and the usage of gases is cool
  • I like the premise and how it sets up a lot of fantasy in the world through sci-fi, however...

What I thought could be improved

  • ... Something felt a bit at odds thematically. I went in with a fantasy state and left with a sci-fi state, not expecting it. Example is using the Black letter font to write "computer", or describing scientific terms but then also abstracting what a screen is. It can work but to me I felt split.

Cool lab crawl! I especially enjoyed the random encounter with trapped gases to make torches explode and the laboratory with the owlbear/ochre jelly/chimera.

Very nice dungeon. Crawling this strange quasi-space station should be fun. My only nitpick ist, that all new creature types are named in text, before it is explained what they are (esp. Diminished) .

cool concept! As someone else said, kinda makes me wish I’d gone more sci-fi with my own entry. I liked the Nerve Center set piece; I get to fight alongside a giant vat brain?? Also, I thought you did a great job of writing to an existing map. That can be really difficult if something there doesn’t quite fit what you have in mind, so really well done.

One minor thing - I would have liked a short bit at the front saying who the Diminished and the encephalons are - as it is, we don’t find out until room 7, but they are mentioned a few times before that.

Good work!

In earlier drafts of this adventure, I had a description for the diminished and encephalons at the beginning. It was a casualty of getting the adventure down to 3 pages.

Thank you for the kind words!

A cool use of sci-fi in a fantasy setting, just like in old times! I especially like the descriptions of modern technology. The ending's also good, leaving a confused party of crawlers in the mountains, with treasures they have no remembrance of getting.

There are a couple novel mechanics here, my favorite being the "using food" table. Rerolling reactions checks is such a simple, elegant ruling to what food might do and not one that's ever occurred to me. That's worth kudos!

The adventure itself is a convincing mesh of sci-fantasy and makes me think I should have gone a little farther future with my own entry.

Thank you for your entry!

This was fun to read. I love the fusion of sci-fi and fantasy here. Descriptions are effective and brilliant. The map design is cool, and layout works. Overall, very solid. Amazing work!
