Neat and sweet. The McGuffin is cute and my players will ruff up Silas if they ever find out. The map is nice and full of little discoveries. The module is written easily parseable, with the right amount of beautiful description and at-the-table readiness.

I love the fortunes and the mini-quest, but unfortunately none of it leads to anything?! I thought the fortunes would be hints to a puzzle or trial later. Or there would be a twist regarding Silas. But not even the prophecy is resolved or hinted at. Perhaps this is a result of the page limit, and I’ll follow you hoping to someday read “the rest” of this.

Developer(+1)

Yes the page limit did somewhat force my hand to leave much of it to the GM. I do plan to revise this module in the future, potentially as part of an anthology that I am working on for Cairn 2e. Thanks for the feedback!

That would be great! :)

i like this a lot! i do want to point out a single typo that might be good to fix: in the warden notes, you mention the shrine is at 4, but it's actually at 5. this is super minor, but i did have to do a double take when i first read it.
that detail aside, the layout is easy to parse, the writing is solid, and i love the illustrations! excellent work.

Thank you! I will update it when i release a revised edition after the jam period. I did change the map markers part way through so I must have missed that.

I absolutely love your layout. It's quite elegant.

Your writing is to the point and conveys enough important information while allowing room for a GM to customize for their own setting.

My main concern is that there is not much incentive for the PCs to go to the cave where they would stumble upon the prophecy. That being said, a savvy GM could either give the PCs a reason to go that way during the adventure, or subsequent plot hooks in montess could get the PCs to enter the cave.

Overall, well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I wanted to leave enough room for the GM to interpret or handle each location in their own way. I intentionally made the cave easy to miss, hoping it would act as a reward for PCs who let their curiosity take over (trekking through the thickets). After all, their goal is to escort the wagon!

It looks like all of your community copies are gone. 😔 I would love to rate this if you could pass along a community copy!

Developer

Great quest here. Love the prophecy angle. The art in here is really quite nice and I like the way you anchored the bottom of the pages with the thorny vegetation. Lean and succinct in a good way. Great read. Thank you for submitting this to the jam!

Developer

Thank you! I had a great time participating and drawing the artwork. Piecing together the locations was very fun as well.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a good sidequest. I think this would be excellent as a change of pace, and very easy for a GM to use. Perfect for those moments when you might not be completely ready to continue a main story or the players need something different in the middle!
Well done

Developer

Thanks! I am currently working on more "side quest" style modules, and thinking i may need to publish an anthology...

Nice! Really short and fun. It'd be interesting to GM whatever happens when the party inevitably peaks below the wagon tarp.

I think you and other commenters are right that this very much feels side-questy. I'm a little disappointed that characters would be likely to only encounter a couple of the locations. I am not sure under what circumstances they might reach the ranger cabin at all.

Developer

The Ranger Cabin is kind of there to reward those who wish to explore. The visible deer tracks in the dry riverbed, pieced with the high cost of meat and news of wolves lingering near settlements could potentially be enough for some groups to explore it! Thanks for your input, I may end up doing some tweaks after the voting period.

Very nice map, usable story with just enough detail. I can see this as a great possible side-quest, something to drop in a game easily.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! I was aiming for a side-quest when thinking of the concept.

Easily usable in any game as a module between locations. I did miss some more punchy conflict and ending!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I may expand on it after the voting period ends. It is definitely a challenge to fit everything onto only 4 pages!
