The Biggest Challenge
The Theme-2 pivot. When 'BUDDY' was revealed I didn't want a cosmetic sidekick, so I made the buddy mechanically load-bearing: deep down the trench goes near-black, and the buddy's light is the only thing that reveals hazards and gathers your air & pearls — so the companion is literally why you can dive deep and survive, blending DIVE + BUDDY into one system. The other real challenge was tuning: my first playtest showed objects drifting in far too slowly, so I iterated the descent speed and switched to distance-based hazard spawning until the first minute felt fast and fair.

AI Tools Used
Built end-to-end with an AI coding agent: game design, all HTML5/Canvas/JS code, the Cloudflare Worker backend (KV analytics + all-time leaderboard), and the icon/cover art rendered programmatically via canvas. All original — no ripped assets.

Areas Where AI Was Used
Code (the entire game + Worker), visual art (icons, cover, in-game canvas rendering), and game/level design. Audio is original procedural WebAudio synthesis.

It’s simple, but

it’s a game you can enjoy playing over and over again.

The leaderboard is a great idea!

My partner is really cute, too.

Developer
Thank you, nitch_game! "Enjoy playing over and over again" is the exact feeling I was chasing — simple to pick up, but with the leaderboard and daily dive giving you a reason to come back for one more descent. And ha, glad you like the buddy — that glowing little partner is my favorite part too. Heading over to play ABYSS HARVEST now. Cheers!

I love the simplicity of this game—the menus are HTML components, and the game itself is built using JavaScript code on a plain canvas. Even though it doesn't use any assets, the way the jellyfish's tentacles move is incredibly captivating and draws you in.

And I love the glowing buddy. The leaderboard certainly spurs you on, but what really caught my attention—and surprised me—was the inclusion of a “Daily Dive” feature. I find this game has so many elements that just make you want to keep coming back…

And even though I didn't aim for the top, I found myself playing long enough to at least make myself visible on the leaderboard. 🙂

Thank you so much — and especially coming from the host, that means a lot! You nailed exactly what I was going for: no assets, just canvas + JS, and I spent a lot of time on the jellyfish tentacles and the buddy's light so the deep would feel alive rather than empty. The "keep coming back" reaction is the whole point of the Daily Dive + leaderboard + your personal-best depth line — I wanted reasons to take one more dive, so I'm thrilled that landed for you. And genuinely: thank you for running this jam. It's been a joy to build for.

why is this just my game but more simple like i even have a leader board

Hey! I can see the resemblance — but DEEP is my own build, made independently for this jam. With the theme literally being DIVE (plus BUDDY), a lot of us landed on the same core idea: descend into darkening water, manage oxygen/depth, chase a leaderboard. There are quite a few dive-descent + leaderboard entries this jam, so I think it's convergence on a shared prompt rather than anyone copying anyone. Yours actually goes further than mine in a bunch of ways — I just played and rated A Deep Dive, and the island hub with the SELL stall, shops/upgrades and unlockable buddies gives it a meta loop DEEP doesn't have. Left you some genuine feedback on your page. Good luck in the voting!

Nice little game! The online leaderboard adds a lot to replayability :))

Developer

Thanks, LeMartinus! Glad the leaderboard pulled you back for another dive — chasing a rank was exactly the replay hook I was hoping would land. Heading over to play D.I.V.E. now. Cheers!

I really love it, and they are cute.

Thank you, yoshi6! Glad the little buddy and jellyfish landed — I wanted the deep to feel alive rather than lonely. I'm heading over to play Penguin DIVE! now. Cheers!

I especially liked the simple, intuitive controls, the glowing BUDDY, and the cute jellyfish! The leaderboard is also a great touch — it made me want to dive just a little deeper.

Developer

Thank you, SukimaStock! "Made me want to dive just a little deeper" is exactly the pull I was going for — the leaderboard and the personal-best line are meant to bait that one-more-dive feeling. Really appreciate you playing. I'll go check out JUNKISSA DIVE next!

The controls are intuitive, easy to understand, and fun.

It’s satisfying to beat the line marking my previous high score.

The ranking system really gets me fired up to play!

It’s a simple game, yet highly satisfying.

Developer

Thank you so much — this really made my day! The "beat your previous-best line" moment and the depth ranks were exactly the hooks I hoped would land, so it means a lot to hear they got you fired up. I'll be diving into Mayday: Into the Deep as well. Cheers!

This was by far the most fun to play, at least so far! I loved the simplicity of it.

Developer

Thank you — that's honestly the nicest thing to hear! "Simple but fun" was the whole goal, so I'm really glad it landed. I'll be checking out Below the Crust too. Thanks for diving in!
