The Biggest Challenge
The Theme-2 pivot. When 'BUDDY' was revealed I didn't want a cosmetic sidekick, so I made the buddy mechanically load-bearing: deep down the trench goes near-black, and the buddy's light is the only thing that reveals hazards and gathers your air & pearls — so the companion is literally why you can dive deep and survive, blending DIVE + BUDDY into one system. The other real challenge was tuning: my first playtest showed objects drifting in far too slowly, so I iterated the descent speed and switched to distance-based hazard spawning until the first minute felt fast and fair.
AI Tools Used
Built end-to-end with an AI coding agent: game design, all HTML5/Canvas/JS code, the Cloudflare Worker backend (KV analytics + all-time leaderboard), and the icon/cover art rendered programmatically via canvas. All original — no ripped assets.
Areas Where AI Was Used
Code (the entire game + Worker), visual art (icons, cover, in-game canvas rendering), and game/level design. Audio is original procedural WebAudio synthesis.

I love the simplicity of this game—the menus are HTML components, and the game itself is built using JavaScript code on a plain canvas. Even though it doesn't use any assets, the way the jellyfish's tentacles move is incredibly captivating and draws you in.
And I love the glowing buddy. The leaderboard certainly spurs you on, but what really caught my attention—and surprised me—was the inclusion of a “Daily Dive” feature. I find this game has so many elements that just make you want to keep coming back…
And even though I didn't aim for the top, I found myself playing long enough to at least make myself visible on the leaderboard. 🙂
why is this just my game but more simple like i even have a leader board
Hey! I can see the resemblance — but DEEP is my own build, made independently for this jam. With the theme literally being DIVE (plus BUDDY), a lot of us landed on the same core idea: descend into darkening water, manage oxygen/depth, chase a leaderboard. There are quite a few dive-descent + leaderboard entries this jam, so I think it's convergence on a shared prompt rather than anyone copying anyone. Yours actually goes further than mine in a bunch of ways — I just played and rated A Deep Dive, and the island hub with the SELL stall, shops/upgrades and unlockable buddies gives it a meta loop DEEP doesn't have. Left you some genuine feedback on your page. Good luck in the voting!
I especially liked the simple, intuitive controls, the glowing BUDDY, and the cute jellyfish! The leaderboard is also a great touch — it made me want to dive just a little deeper.

The controls are intuitive, easy to understand, and fun.
It’s satisfying to beat the line marking my previous high score.
The ranking system really gets me fired up to play!
It’s a simple game, yet highly satisfying.
This was by far the most fun to play, at least so far! I loved the simplicity of it.
