Love types of games like these! Keep up the great work. It's strange because, for some reason, I think I remember a few places for some reason. Possibly when I was dreaming?
This is what Liminal Space is all about! If you like this kind of game, you should check out this game called The Backrooms: Expedition. Trust me you will NOT regret it
Bravo.
- This is the first game I’m featuring on my YouTube channel—inspired by the Backrooms, Dreamcore... it serves as the perfect introduction for my next content around the Backrooms, liminal... The game is flawless, boasting stunning, fluid visuals with an immersive VHS filter, alongside oppressive and mysterious ambient sounds. I could have happily spent even more time getting lost in the corridors crafted by a developer who truly grasps the liminal and dreamcore aesthetic and that heavy, unsettling atmosphere. They perfectly understand the vibe of the Backrooms, dreamcore, and liminal spaces without relying on cheap jump scares or other things. Bravo.
☁️ An Absolute Masterpiece of Liminal Horror & Nostalgia!
I just finished playing Your Happy Place, and to say I’m blown away is a massive understatement. This isn't just another Backrooms project; it is THE Backrooms game I’ve been waiting to play for years.
The blend of Liminal Spaces, Dreamcore aesthetic, and that eerie, nostalgia-heavy VHS camcorder visual filter creates an atmosphere so dense you can practically feel it. The lighting, powered by Unreal Engine 5's Lumen system, makes every yellow hallway and empty room look terrifyingly real yet deeply surreal.
Knowing that this started as a passion prototype years ago and was finally brought to life for the Liminal Game Jam 2026 makes it even more special. You can feel the absolute love, effort, and vision put into every single frame. The sense of isolation, eerie nostalgia, and psychological dread is nailed to perfection.
To Dark_Knife15: You set out to build your dream Backrooms game, and in doing so, you created an absolute gem for all of us. Outstanding work!
If you love liminal spaces, VHS horror, or pure atmospheric exploration, you NEED to play this right now. 10/10 masterclass! 🚀✨
Your Happy Place: When Nostalgia Turns into a Nightmare
Developed by Dark_Knife15 for a game jam, Your Happy Place is an indie psychological horror gem that takes the liminal space and Backrooms aesthetic to a deeply unsettling level.
Atmosphere & Immersion The game masterfully pairs a retro VHS/dreamcore aesthetic with a fisheye lens and nostalgic textures to lull you into a false sense of childhood comfort. The visuals say it all: you shift seamlessly from surreal, dreamlike hills beneath impossible skies to suffocating, fluorescent-lit corridors. The transition from familiar to deeply disturbing is executed with perfection.
Key Highlights
Constant Dread: Rather than relying on cheap jumpscares, it builds a heavy, suffocating atmosphere rooted in isolation and disorientation.
Visual Direction: Blending classic Backrooms yellow wallpaper with warped dreamscapes triggers that eerie, uncanny feeling of being somewhere you’ve "been before."
A Standout Ending: As echoed by the community, the final act ramps up the tension, delivering a hauntingly creepy resolution that leaves a lasting chill (in the absolute best way).
Verdict If you’re into psychological horror, internet lore, or exploring spaces that feel straight out of a fever dream, this 747 MB Windows title is an absolute must-play.
