☁️ An Absolute Masterpiece of Liminal Horror & Nostalgia!

I just finished playing Your Happy Place, and to say I’m blown away is a massive understatement. This isn't just another Backrooms project; it is THE Backrooms game I’ve been waiting to play for years.

The blend of Liminal Spaces, Dreamcore aesthetic, and that eerie, nostalgia-heavy VHS camcorder visual filter creates an atmosphere so dense you can practically feel it. The lighting, powered by Unreal Engine 5's Lumen system, makes every yellow hallway and empty room look terrifyingly real yet deeply surreal.

Knowing that this started as a passion prototype years ago and was finally brought to life for the Liminal Game Jam 2026 makes it even more special. You can feel the absolute love, effort, and vision put into every single frame. The sense of isolation, eerie nostalgia, and psychological dread is nailed to perfection.

To Dark_Knife15: You set out to build your dream Backrooms game, and in doing so, you created an absolute gem for all of us. Outstanding work!

If you love liminal spaces, VHS horror, or pure atmospheric exploration, you NEED to play this right now. 10/10 masterclass! 🚀✨

A Mind-Bending Journey into the Uncanny

I've just finished playing the available version of Liminal State, and I'm honestly still picking up my jaw from the floor. This isn't just a game; it's a terrifyingly atmospheric and utterly immersive journey into the depths of liminal spaces and spatial distortion.

From the second you load in, the sense of dread and unsettling curiosity is overwhelming. The visual execution is brilliant—perfectly capturing that vintage, found-footage feel that makes you question your own eyes. The procedural level generation works like a charm, creating environments that are both beautiful and profoundly disturbing. They truly challenge your very notion of space, making every doorway and corner a new existential puzzle.

The sound design is equally impressive, with a minimalist but oppressive score and ambient noises that had me constantly looking over my shoulder. It expertly builds tension, leading to those moments of genuine, skin-crawling horror that are mentioned in the warnings. The puzzles, too, are integrated seamlessly into the world design, pushing you to think in new and often twisted ways about the space around you.

The story, from what we can glimpse, is fascinating and deeply intriguing. The mystery surrounding C.O.M.P.A.S.S., the cryptic Dr. -------, and the strange temporal properties of the 'cube' elements create a compelling narrative framework that I am dying to explore further. The creator has done an incredible job of blending cosmic horror with the specific dread of liminal architecture.

Even in this version, which is slated to be discontinued, the passion and vision are undeniable. It's a testament to the core idea that even now, it's such a complete, effective experience. Knowing that a 'new and improved' version is on the horizon is the best possible news.

If you are a fan of liminal horror, environmental storytelling, and puzzles that will make your brain hurt, you owe it to yourself to get this version now and wishlist the new one immediately. This is a brilliant start to what could be one of the definitive games of this subgenre. The price is an absolute steal for the quality provided.

I cannot wait for the Steam release. Huge congratulations to GL Studio for this masterclass in atmosphere and spatial manipulation. Keep up the amazing work!

Overall: A-MA-ZING.

🌟 Absolutely Mind-Blowing Experience! (10/10)

I usually don't leave reviews often, but I had to step out of the shadows for this one. Calling this game "good" would be a massive understatement—it completely blew me away.

From the second I stepped into the levels, the atmosphere took over. The visual design, sound design, and true-to-lore liminal horror vibe are executed to absolute perfection. It nail-bitingly captures that uncanny, oppressive found footage aesthetic that so many games try to achieve, but very few actually master.

The attention to detail, immersion, and sheer tension had me completely hooked and left me speechlessly impressed by the end. You can tell how much love, passion, and effort went into crafting this experience.

If this is just a taste of what’s to come, the full release is going to be an absolute masterpiece. I cannot express enough how hyped I am for the full version!

To the developer(s) at Night Drive Interactive: Thank you for making this, and keep up the incredible work. You’ve gained a massive fan for life.

Wishlisting, following, and counting down the days until the full release! 🚀🔥

Feel free to tweak any detail before pasting it on Steam, itch.io, or Discord!

Your Happy Place: When Nostalgia Turns into a Nightmare

Developed by Dark_Knife15 for a game jam, Your Happy Place is an indie psychological horror gem that takes the liminal space and Backrooms aesthetic to a deeply unsettling level.

Atmosphere & Immersion The game masterfully pairs a retro VHS/dreamcore aesthetic with a fisheye lens and nostalgic textures to lull you into a false sense of childhood comfort. The visuals say it all: you shift seamlessly from surreal, dreamlike hills beneath impossible skies to suffocating, fluorescent-lit corridors. The transition from familiar to deeply disturbing is executed with perfection.

Key Highlights

  • Constant Dread: Rather than relying on cheap jumpscares, it builds a heavy, suffocating atmosphere rooted in isolation and disorientation.
  • Visual Direction: Blending classic Backrooms yellow wallpaper with warped dreamscapes triggers that eerie, uncanny feeling of being somewhere you’ve "been before."
  • A Standout Ending: As echoed by the community, the final act ramps up the tension, delivering a hauntingly creepy resolution that leaves a lasting chill (in the absolute best way).

Verdict If you’re into psychological horror, internet lore, or exploring spaces that feel straight out of a fever dream, this 747 MB Windows title is an absolute must-play.

Score: 9.5/10 — A masterpiece of liminal horror.
