This was awesome, really nice submission team! ^-^
Things I loved:
Things I'd love to see:
Thank you for playing and all the feedback!
I'll tell Salestial you enjoyed the writing! I'm glad the aesthetic landed well, I originally planned for it to shift from a normal nature tileset to an ominous one but ended up doing just the color shift and a sort of middle ground for the terrain.
The page was fun to set up! I mostly tried to match vibes and make the page look appealing on its own, I hadn't even considered blending in with the gameplay haha.
We had to rush the ending due to time constraints, we originally wanted a boss of some sort that likely would have ended up being the goddess or some "dark" version of her.
As for sfx... Yeaaaah I thought if it about halfway through the jam and then completely forgot. It would definitely benefit from at the last a hit and shoot sound, probably a jump one too.
great way of using the two colors in gameplay also, This is good ideas for any game. Really really like the art style. is that inspired by some culture or history because it reminded me of something and was so sharp. Probably one of the better non-pixel art games here (at the least). The gameplay was just decent, and the jump was too floaty but some prefer that so. I like more snappiness , but didn't break anything and still was time well spent.
Thank you for your comments on the art! It wasn't inspired by anything in particular, I was just messing around with curves and geometric patterns and ended up where I did!
Wow, really loved the theme and story - though the ending T_T. Art was clean and I really loved the visual / audio representation of the players health.
If I could change/add anything - it'd love for there to be a few more sound effects on things such as shooting ext. Also, the enemies that shoot really do so quite quickly - while it did add to the challenge I feel it took away a little from the vibe when I had to slow my roll and really time things - though this is a very subjective opinion. I think slowing them down a little, and perhaps mixing up the pattern on some might be cool!
With that said, really excellent work all up!
I totally did want to vary timings on things, but it slipped my mind until it was too late :(
Thanks for the review!
Nice way of showing the HP, Timing was very important but I was pretty bad at it haha
Thank you!
It turns into a horror game quickly if you don’t dodge the projectiles well…a clever way to show HP under 1bit palette. I’m expecting some sort of twist in the end than the player simply X w X
Haha thanks, the world was meant to get eldritch and ominous as you got low too, but was cut due to time.
I died after I fell into the pit near the tree and couldn't restart, so I guess that's where the game ends, if so, then it's a very intersting plot-twist, that you can't really win the game, I also found the art-style to be very pleasant to look at, and the fact that the white background also acts as a health bar is nice. Music and the sound design in general were amazing, overall it was an enjoyable experience.
also I found out that I can kill myself with my own projectiles If i stand close to the wall and shoot at it lmao.
Yup, the tree is the ending.
I'm glad you enjoyed the art, I wanted to experiment with this, as all my previous projects have been fairly low res pixel art! Nice to hear you liked the environmental healthbar!
I THOUGHT I MADE IT SO YOU COULDN'T SHOOT YOURSELF D:
The game over text changes when you're in the pit, either you didn't notice or I messed that up too lmao
I liked the art for the intro sequence a lot and the health changing the color of the screen was a nice touch, as well as the warning noises. Nice game!
Thank you!
i cant get over to the tree so im assuming thats where teh game ends? i even started up a new game and timed out at teh start just to confirm its just the pit i cant reload in. as far as platformers go you made good use of your three enemy types, the bats cold have been better placed for a more interesting platforming challenge.
and then ya, that ending, or if its not im not too sure what the trick is to get up there, but it really leaves the whole experience flat (or im just bad i guess?)
still a better take on the dream sequence trope then any of my friends came up with >.<
It ends there, yeah. The game over text changes, or at least is supposed to.
I liked the graphics in this game, because they change colors when the game changes so that’s interesting. The audio was amazing. The gameplay need to be more polished, more coyote times, improve collision and timing would be a good idea. Good job.
I'm glad you liked the color changes!
Goodjob! it’s a cool game. the using the background to show health shows promise. the art is good (though honestly the switch in style was a bit jarring, I kinda wanted more of the first one) the audio is probably my favorite part since it’s so interactive. the platforming and fighting weren’t the best. they lacked a lot of common practices and honestly felt actively going against me. but those are easily solvable issues once you learn the concepts.I liked the difficulty and the trying to find someone to kill to replenish my health, the music was great to make me panic, the color change too. a lot of design ideas show promise I’m sure y’all will improve significantly with time!
Thank you! This was my first time doing higher resolution art, so it didn't quite end turning out exactly how I intended it to!
I'm quite happy with how the cutscene / prologue felt, and I agree that a similar style would have worked better for the rest of the game!
I'm glad you liked the dynamic audio and color shifting! I originally wanted the environment to get eldritch like as you got low but I ended up not having the time to do so and ended up doing only the color.
I like how there's no such UI but the background environment changed accordingly to the character's health. Good game. Was a bit hard to avoid the projectiles, but I mastered it after a few more encounters.
Thanks! I'm happy with how the background shift ended up feeling and glad you enjoyed it!
very cool aesthetics, and i love how the dynamic color palettes and music are both used to reinforce the tension of the premise, but i think the gamefeel could've been improved a lot (jump feels very floaty, navigating the curved terrain felt kind of jank, and the projectiles are thrown at a very awkward speed relative to the player's size/speed). still, i think there's some fun to be had; especially once you realize that you're encouraged to balance reducing damage with killing enemies to extend your timer, there's an interesting push-and-pull in the moment to moment gameplay that gives the whole thing a nice texture.
Thank you! I originally wanted the tile palette to also shift to be more ominous as you got low, but ended up just going with the color and heartbeat.
