Artistic Statement / Use of Theme
Our game is centered around the importance of trees in fighting climate change, as well as challenging themes of complacency and highlighting the big impact a small gesture can make.
Throughout the game, while trying to reach their main goal, the player helps many NPCs through their own struggles and mindsets, each representing a different form of complacency, as well as exploring themes around climate issues such as soil & water pollution, food insecurity, and deforestation.
This game is heavily inspired by paper and scrapbooking, made to make the player feel like they are inside of a scrapbook. We communicate the disastrous effects of rising fires in our game by having the "pages" of the world burn away, further emphasizing our themes.

Development Summary
The journey to get to our finished project was an extremely rewarding, yet difficult one. Our core idea and message stayed consistent from the very start to the end of this jam, although we had to manage our priorities and re-work mechanics as we went through. We definitely had very big ideas and keeping more realistic expectations would have helped us in the long run. Overall, we had a great team with open communication, regular meetings, and awesome ideas. We are proud of our final project and so glad to have been on a team together!

(optional) Release Plan
Our game is currently ready for release as a small project with a strong story and visual direction. We plan to promote our game through social medias such as tiktok and instagram, as well as through word of mouth and opening conversations around our message. If given the chance, we would love to develop this story further into a longer game.

(optional) Further Development Plan
We would love to expand our game to dive deeper into the stories of our characters, as well as flesh out our page burning mechanic more. It would be great to allow this mechanic to effect gameplay more heavily to reinforce our message.

I mean, what a polished and charming game. The point and click puzzle solving felt very nostalgic and the logic was easy to follow (for the most part), the representation of different forms of giving up in the face of despair felt extremely relevant, and the aesthetics were enough to soften its haunted atmosphere. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play to the end as I couldn’t figure out what the third piece of proof would be after the dead plant and the tree husks (and time is rapidly running out on the rating period), but I can see why this game has been popular this jam. Also, I just really like the sound design of characters talking — for some reason it brought Okami to mind.

Really polished experience with great art style. I, too, am a big fan of point and click games.

Hello! I really love the art and music of this game (different sounds for the different characters is so fun)! Gameplay has mostly been nice, I have had a difficult time with the combining board and progressing once out of the house. I'm going to try some suggestions from the comments, but otherwise I've really enjoyed this! Thanks!

Loved the art and the narrative of this game. It really did feel like I was scrapbooking, and the book was talking back to me :). Can't wait to see more.

The artistic direction here is really fantastic and the ambience is very nice. The visuals and music go nicely together, the character designs are pleasing, and I adore the scrapbook texture of everything. The world feels very unified by the sound design and the characters introduced in a way that is engaging! Some of the gameplay moments are a bit difficult to figure out as far as using and combining tools from your inventory and when a new location is available, and some more overt queues would be helpful in some moments, and I found clicking into dialogue or items to be a bit clunky. Overall, the piece looks and feels fantastic artistically and can't wait for the full version. Keep up the good work!

This has a great art style and I'd love to play it, but I don't understand how to get past the bear at the intro. I seem to just get stuck in a conversation with her and there's no way to exit?

Hi! You can interact with components of the dialogue that have a little hand pointing to them. Click on the word "seed" to progress :) we will likely do something to make this more obvious in a future update.

The art style and atmosphere of this game are so unique! The cute character designs and delicate details in the props made it such a joy to watch and play. It has a real charm that instantly pulls you into the world. Thank you for creating such an amazing project, and I’m really looking forward to the next update!

This is my favorite game of the jam thus far hands down. I'm an incredibly big fan of visual novels and believe that compelling characters and art style is what makes or breaks it, and this game knocks it out of the park. The sound design and word choice in dialogue made each character feel alive and real. The art style is genuinely one of the most unique ones I've seen in a very long time, and it works well with the tone of the game very well. Though I could never get anything to craft (might've been a bug, might've been me being stupid), I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the npcs and repairing the world as much as I could. Some QoL things would help the game a lot though, like maybe a little icon change when you hover over something that's interactable, or a hovering icon above an npc when they have new dialogue. Overall, AMAZING work from the entire team. I really hope this game expands!

Wow I absolutely love the art direction of this game! I love the way the dialogue is printed out, how the characters are voiced and drawn, and the music that fits into the game's atmosphere. My team's game also opted for a paper aesthetic, but it was a very different interpretation which I thought was pretty interesting. I don't have that much experience with point and click games, but I do wonder if there can be a feature that will make progression ever so slightly more intuitive? Like maybe hovering over something that can be examined or clicked will change the cursor to a ? or magnifying glass or some symbol that tells the player you can interact with it. On my first play through, I didn't even know how I stumbled upon the bird, so I think having something small that hints me on what to do next would be nice. My friend was also really into this game, she also struggled a bit with progression, but she spent quite a while playing. Overall, nice work!

I enjoyed my playthrough of this game! The art is standout. The story was really choppy for me, made a little worse by lack of puzzle hints. I kept going back to NPCs to see if I missed anything, so I got the script a couple times. Does no one in the world know what the issue is, beyond fire and greed? It would have been nice to get a better idea of my buy-in as a player immediately ~ like letting me know the bear was my grandmother sooner, rather than burying with the bird. And how will the seed help? I also could not figure out the combine feature or fix the windmill. Thanks for making!

I love the art so much! Idk if its a bug, but I got stuck on the first conversation, it doesnt let me leave, I was able to continue when I save the game and reloads it.

Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. Not a bug, but there are some things you need to do in order to leave the house. :)

Really loved the aesthetics, the game reminded me of professor Layton. Unfortunately I was stuck at one part after we get the water from lion and the smoke filled the screen. Nevertheless, good Job! It was a good game.

Hi! Thank you so much for your comment. Yes, we are currently experiencing a bug with our page burning mechanic... Please look out for our update soon to fix this!

I really love the visuals of this game and as a fan of point and click adventure games I loved the experience. I will say the dragging mechanic is a little finnicky at times with the crafting menu also I'm unsure if this is a bug or not but I seemed to be blocked off from progressing in the story after leaving the house. I was able to fix the outside of the windmill and clear water wheel from the tire but using the planks on the beaver as the game suggests does nothing so I was unfortunately unable to progress further from that point. Overall I enjoyed the visuals and music and would love to get to experience the full game start to finish.
