I mean, what a polished and charming game. The point and click puzzle solving felt very nostalgic and the logic was easy to follow (for the most part), the representation of different forms of giving up in the face of despair felt extremely relevant, and the aesthetics were enough to soften its haunted atmosphere. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play to the end as I couldn’t figure out what the third piece of proof would be after the dead plant and the tree husks (and time is rapidly running out on the rating period), but I can see why this game has been popular this jam. Also, I just really like the sound design of characters talking — for some reason it brought Okami to mind.

The Last Seed's itch.io pageArtistic Statement / Use of Theme
Our game is centered around the importance of trees in fighting climate change, as well as challenging themes of complacency and highlighting the big impact a small gesture can make.
Throughout the game, while trying to reach their main goal, the player helps many NPCs through their own struggles and mindsets, each representing a different form of complacency, as well as exploring themes around climate issues such as soil & water pollution, food insecurity, and deforestation.
This game is heavily inspired by paper and scrapbooking, made to make the player feel like they are inside of a scrapbook. We communicate the disastrous effects of rising fires in our game by having the "pages" of the world burn away, further emphasizing our themes.
Development Summary
The journey to get to our finished project was an extremely rewarding, yet difficult one. Our core idea and message stayed consistent from the very start to the end of this jam, although we had to manage our priorities and re-work mechanics as we went through. We definitely had very big ideas and keeping more realistic expectations would have helped us in the long run. Overall, we had a great team with open communication, regular meetings, and awesome ideas. We are proud of our final project and so glad to have been on a team together!
(optional) Release Plan
Our game is currently ready for release as a small project with a strong story and visual direction. We plan to promote our game through social medias such as tiktok and instagram, as well as through word of mouth and opening conversations around our message. If given the chance, we would love to develop this story further into a longer game.
(optional) Further Development Plan
We would love to expand our game to dive deeper into the stories of our characters, as well as flesh out our page burning mechanic more. It would be great to allow this mechanic to effect gameplay more heavily to reinforce our message.
