Hi! I’m looking for two artists for a gothic romance/mystery visual novel set in a fictional, Regency-inspired version of 19th-century England:

1. Character Artist

I’m looking for expressive, stylized 2D character art with a strong illustrative feel—somewhere between book illustration, comics, and otome/visual novel art.

Slightly cartoonish or anime influences are absolutely welcome, but I’m not looking for a generic anime style. I’d especially love to find an artist with a distinctive and recognizable personal style.

The work will primarily involve character sprites, expressions, and outfit variations.

2. Background Artist

I’m looking for atmospheric, painterly 2D backgrounds: old country estates, gothic interiors, streets and shops of 19th-century London, etc.

I’m not looking for photorealism. Watercolor, gouache, digital painting, and other illustrative approaches are welcome. The backgrounds should feel atmospheric and slightly gothic while still being readable and functional as visual novel locations.

These are two separate paid positions, so you are welcome to apply for either one or both.

The project is a commercial visual novel, so the artwork will need to be licensed for commercial use. I’m looking for an artist interested in ongoing work rather than a single commission.

But to put in numbers I'd say it'll be 50-100+ for backgrounds and 30-100+ for characters it really depends on the details and negotiation. I'm Prince, a 2D artist from Spain, and I would like to apply to be a character artist in your project. You can find examples of my work in my portfolio web (->) or in my artfight profile (->). I absolutely love character design and working in visual novels; probably the examples that suit best this project would be the CG art I made for Cupid's Bargain (->) or the  design of Valentín in my poster's section, both in my portfolio web.

As a reference, regarding prize, a custom design sprite sheet would be 100€ + 15€ the turnaround or any additional outfit, flat colors and very minor shading included.  This could vary depending of the complexity of the character, less if the character's been already designed or is a really simple one and more if the design is really intricate. You'll see I'm used to adapt my style to the necessities of each project, so in case you're interested I would love to hear more in deep about what you have in mind (I'm whataprince in Discord).
