PAUSED DEVELOPMENT. It's unique and captivating, but somewhat flawed in its execution.

Let's talk about the gender weirdness first: The game's world has male and female people. Females are as you'd expect. However, each "male" is a dickgirl with breasts, a female appearance, and female clothing, but with a male name, male pronouns, and a more male behavior. They are male in most regards except appearance. The MC is also such a "male", though he leans a bit more to femboy-ish. You can decide early on whether you want to mingle with only females or with both genders.

This gender system makes the game unique, but it will throw you off regularly. You'll always first intuitively assume someone to be female until someone calls them "he" or you learn that they have a male name. After exploring the game's 3 main story paths, I've gotten used to it over time. I don't like the gender system that much, but I don't think it's a major issue.

Okay, story: You're some sort of heavenly agent, sent by a god, but with no memories. On your first few days you experience the customs & horrors of the world first hand and can then choose which one of 3 paths you want to take. Each path takes the story into a completely different direction. Playing through all of them took me about 12 hours, though there is side content I haven't seen.

What I like about the 3 paths is that every path lets you see the world from a different angle: Each path is self-contained, but by playing all three you can piece together overarching narratives. What I dislike is that the dev spreads themselves thin: They now have to write 3 great stories + an interesting overarching narrative. The paths make the game really unique, but I wonder whether the writing quality would've been better had the dev just settled on a mostly linear story.

I initially thought that the "human path" is the "evil route", which seemed very nonsensical to me story-wise. Though when you play through it, you'll discover that there's more to it. I appreciated that, though how the story gets there is a bit wonky.

The overall story is really interesting, I have to say. It could be more fleshed out in some places, but I like the ideas behind it. What the game can really struggle with sometimes is how it chooses to tell that story: Conversations, transitions between scenes, setup of plot points, side stories... Some scenes are really great, others are just okay. It's weird: The story is really captivating, so I'm willing push past the sometimes questionable presentation and lack of proper setup, just because I want to know what happens next.

This game reminds me of Evermore, another AVN, which also started as a story that was poorly presented, but the story was so captivating that I kept playing anyway. Evermore's dev improved immensely throughout the story and the last chunk of content he released was outright amazing. When I saw the announcement that Evermore got abandoned, that hit like a truck. God's Call on the other hand starts off better than Evermore did, however, it never really improves much, though the story is enticing enough to keep me playing regardless.

Overall, I feel that this game is very special, but I also see that it could be sooo much better, it's kind of frustrating. If you don't mind a femboy-ish MC and are looking for something that's very unique, then give this game a shot!
