YOU KNOW HOW THIS WORKS! WHAT WENT WELL! WHAT DIDNT! WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT OTHER ENTRIES! ETC ETC
SO much went wrong, lol:
BUT...I'm so proud of myself for having submitted anything at all. This is my first successful game jam and first completed game. It was stressful and messy and showed me my strengths, weakness, limitations, and gave me the foundation to move forward and make something better next time.
I haven't had a chance to experience all of the other submissions but am blown away by what I've seen thus far with "Let's Talk Until Dawn" and "Tower of Esca." Everyone is so talented and creative. It makes my heart warm to see so many people making things.
I feel privileged to have been a part of the jam! So thank you, robobarbie!
I suddenly worry that I should have stuck to a more literal interpretation of 'damsel in shining armor knight in distress'.... Regardless, this was very fun to do and while it would be really easy to be critical of myself because I am the best at being my own worst critic I'm choosing to be really proud of what I put together. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this game jam!
What went right:
I did my best to avoid crunch as much as possible and I'd like to say I was somewhat successful! I also learned some more about windows in Godot so that's always a plus!
What went wrong:
I started 2 days late because I forgot when the jam was beginning. So I didn't get to add any proper sprites, art or small gameplay element I wanted to. The story needed more polish and definitely more re-reads. And rewrites here and there.
Everyone did such a good job though from what I see in the screenshots alone. I'm excited to play what everyone else has made!!
What Went Well: Having a team of 4 meant we could divide roles up really well! It meant that I could write, another could program, one could do the art, and the fourth would direct and hop in helping wherever needed. It was a definite crunch from all of us as having the team expanded the scope of what we could do, but we could all focus on our individual tasks.
What Didn't: I honestly can't think of much! Having a team definitely gave us an advantage in cleaning up messes quickly. I think organisation was a little lax when we first began, but that sorted itself out along the way. I also joined the team 3 days into the jam, giving me only a week (less for implementation) to write the script, but we got there in the end!
Other Entries: I love seeing all the different interpretations! Lots of people went for the classic knight/damsel (including my team lol) but I've loved seeing the ones that branched out and kept the theme while changing the setting! The variety in storylines and intents is so fun to see - it's been a while since I was this active in a game jam, and I forgot how much you can see everyone's creativity. I love it!
