The game itself was pretty good! But seemed somewhat generic, nothing really stood out to me as novel (not that I've played a lot of these RPG type games, so maybe I just didn't appreciate the fine-tuning you'd done). And while it all looked nice, there were a few moments, like I did quests but then couldn't find anyone to turn them in to? So I never saw what level up did, but didn't need it to beat Grok anyway. Seems like there's currency that you don't earn, so I guess it's ok that there's a shop that doesn't sell anything. Theme-wise... yep, they're out in the woods, and stuck together, figurateively, in that no one else wanted to buddy up. I did try for a second playthrough given you mentioned replayability but seemed to be fairly similar to the first so I moved on.
All of which reads kinda negatively, sorry, but like I said, it was overall actually a prety good game, especially for a solo jam project, like it's really cool that you managed to put all that together! :-D
Hay omcmeister,
thank you so much for playing and sharng your thoughts and impressions!
Haha, yes it is somewhat generic for sure. That was kinda what I was going for haha : D
I designed this more as a proof of concept rather than a serious epic. It was a lot of fun to try and figure out how to present an adventure completey differently in RMMV ( that was kinda the challenge I put on myself ) There were many bugs and problems to solve, but it turned out pretty much as I imagined, at least, with what I had to work with.
You can turn in your quests and receive money and exp as reward in any town via "Level Up" . Sorry that's not well expressed / explained.. ^^; I can see that.
The shop only sells 2 items so far - but there would probably more to come in the future. I thought " How can I build / prepare this game, in a way to relatively easily expand it, if I ever feel like it. "
At first I was confused by it, but I kind of like the "board game" movement and events, even if it was frustrating to do an event without any effect and need to bounce in and out to try again. (Like letting Aleena drag you to the bar when you want to shop)
Is it always 3 times around the loop to get an ending or was it based on level or something?
Obviously the AI art is kind of a bummer coming from you, an artist I like, but it is what it is. You were up front and I won't harp on it.
Lastly, I really didn't expect to see a Grey in somebody else's game this time around.
Hey, thank you very much Pixe! ^^
So happy you found the grey - that proves you really dug into this build, haha!
The end is really tied to Aleena's mood expression in the top left of the screen.
And that changes depending on gameplay / decisions. For example sleeping at the camp is something she enjoys, and obviously hitting the bars. She does not enjoy defeats... those do not spark joy.
