The setup of the game is heavily inspired by Mark Twain’s novel “The Prince and the Pauper”. After the introduction, there’s not much of a story progression though, and the characters are very bland. The characters don’t even have names, and are just called “Butler”, “Maid B”, “Guard B”, etc. When the characters talk, they are displayed in two different places at the same time. This feels a bit strange. I also felt that the characters don’t match the backgrounds stylistically. I’m guessing all the art is AI generated, but there is no disclosure with regards to this on the game page, so I don’t know for sure.
The main game-play mechanic in this game is pixel hunting. You need to find different objects, and that’s pretty much it. There are also typically three different options to choose from when interacting with NPC’s, but to me it seems that it doesn’t matter which option is chosen.
This game isn’t my cup of tea, but considering it was created in a short period of time for a game jam, I still think it deserves some credit. I recorded a commentary-free playthrough here, if you’re interested:
