That's nice, I liked it. Taking first place turned out not to be all that easy.

Developer

Thank you for testing the game.

Nice game! Congrats on it! I don't know what happened at the beginning, but in the first 2-3 races I didn't get the story. I was pressing X to choose Alex but nothing was happening and then the race would start. Only on the 4th time I noticed the dialog. Which is a nice touch to the game. And, at times the game can start to feel a little dull. As someone suggested, maybe add some power-ups on the track, or maybe more obstacles. Anyway, the idea to build up the speed seemed interesting. Congrats on the game

Thanks for playing and for the feedback; your suggestions have been added to the list of post-jam improvements.

Kinda ironic that the story of the game is about an AI taking over and the game itself was built using AI XD
Edit: Just read the comment bellow and saw that it's not the case.

It's a nice game overall, has potential for sure.

Good points:

  • the art is really well done
  • There's a narrative.
  • It is a good take on a racing game.

Bad points:

  • I found that sometimes the collisions are a bit janky... There was more than one time that was clearly not on the sandpit and my car slowed down as if it was on it.
  • For some reason, I always get a game over, don't seem to matter the place I finish the race.
  • I am not able to choose my character, always only having Alex as an option. Is there a reason why?

Thanks for testing the game, for the feedback, and for understanding the situation. I had tried to get the HTML version to embed directly on itch.io but gave up due to time constraints, and then Netlify decided to throw in this "gift."

Your suggestions have been added to the list of post-jam improvements. Regarding Alex: he is the only one available until you finish the tournament in first place.

weird... I finished thw first race on first place twice, and both times it ended on a game over and it kept letting me chose Alex only...

Is there a chance that it is related to my browser? I played the game using firefox.

The game is a lot of fun, and I really like the different weather and environmental effects, such as night and rain. The only thing that might be a nice addition would be a few power ups that you can pick up along the way.

One more question about the development process. Did you let the AI do the coding while you made the graphics yourself? If so, what was your experience like? Did you have to step in and correct things often, or did the AI usually get the code right on the first try?

Developer

Thanks for the feedback; I’ll definitely add those improvements. Speaking of AI, I’m personally kind of fed up with being forced to use it at work. I love programming because it helps me relax, so making games is a hobby I do for fun—and to stay as far away from AI as possible.

Ah, I see! I actually thought you had used AI because I saw “Powered by Netlify” at the bottom of the game and mistakenly associated it with AI. That’s why I asked. I was just curious about your development process and what your experience with it was. Thanks for clearing that up! I can totally understand wanting game development to be something separate from your day job and just enjoying the programming itself. :)

Oh, I see where the questions are coming from. I’ve always hosted my HTML games on that free service, but now they’re inserting this "gift" into the game's HTML. I’m going to try hosting directly on itch.io again.

Good game and well paced levels.  Must've been difficult to balance the opponents and obstacles to help the player.  I ended up getting 2nd place overall and it seemed like I got a "good" ending.  Are there multiple endings?  I think the rain could use a little work because rain doesn't just fall straight down when flying straight.  I think they'd be diagonal streaks... or speed lines that come and go could also be nice.  Anyways, well done.

Thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback. Regarding the ending: if you finish the tournament in first place, you'll unlock a new character with a different spec.

Good sprites, but kinda monotonous gameplay in general and although is interesting to have a narrative, as far as i saw the narrative dont fit all too well with the gameplay.

Thanks for your feedback; I'll try to improve on that point in the next edition.
