One thing I’d definitely recommend is making games, finishing them, and putting them out into the world. You learn so much from actually releasing something.

I’d also say: always remember that feeling of excitement you had when you first became completely absorbed in a game. I think that feeling is worth keeping close when you make your own games.

And try to observe yourself as a creator. Some people are more motivated when they have a clear goal. Some enjoy steadily building things little by little. Some get their energy from new ideas and inspiration. Some are very sensitive to what other people think. There are all kinds of creators, and I don’t think there’s one “right” type.

So I think it’s important to keep looking for a way of making games that fits your own personality. I’m still figuring that out myself too!
