Thanks for the feedback and for playing Between Gods.
Could you tell me exactly where the combat freezes so I can check and fix that?
I am working on adding more music for the battles.
The filter needs to be tweaked, or at least give the player the option to lower its intensity.
I just watched your gameplay, I'm going to fix the bug and let you know.
I have published a new build, everything should work fine. If not, try disabling the tutorial in the pause menu before starting the fight; it might be an issue related to the controller type or the web browser, which I'll need to look into more thoroughly.
I tried Between Gods out(the browser version here on itch) and I love it. Wishlisted!
You took a simple concept of parrying, and made it into a short, enjoyable experience. I love it. I was a little bit confused sometimes as the spacebar would popup at the same time as I was instructed to hit a key to parry, and I got confused(I'm also bad at these type of reaction games so the stimuli probably overwhelms me lol). I also wasn't sure if the buttons on the top of the screen on the map were supposed to be clickable, but now I see they're essentially a "legend" for the map. Just took me some time to figure that out (probably a "me thing" and not a design issue).
Also, regarding tutorials, thank you for using images to explain how to attack or parry! It was super easy for me to understand the mechanics without some long, boring tutorial and a wall of text explaining things.
I especially like the music. I think it matches the theme of the game really well, and the announcer voice reminds me of old arcade games. I could definitely see this at an arcade, with me sinking coin after coin into the game trying not to mess up and get further than I did last time, haha!
Best of luck to you on your journey to release!
It's awesome to hear that the visual mechanics guide worked well for you. I really wanted to skip the dreaded wall of text tutorial and jump straight into the action, so I'm glad the images hit the spot.
Thanks again for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review and for supporting the game. It really keeps the momentum going!
I'm playing the Steam version, and have wishlisted it.
I played for a while, beating the first god, and getting all of the 5 cost upgrades along with one 15 cost upgrade. I'll play more later after I check out more jam games. Overall everything feels a bit better than when I played before. Having some practice it was also easier to get into the game and start building up the character.
With the limited number of uses, I don't value weapons and armor much, and will favor amulets. I also favor passive amulets that last over consumables, but that is common for most games I play. I often favor attack amulets first, then parry. Max HP is low, unless there is a Bonfire nearby or I have some other way to heal soon.
When I went to the settings it showed the defaults in the fields, even though the game was not in full screen, nor at 1280x720. When I clicked on each it first switched to that default value, then I could change it. After that when I left and came back it showed the correct values. When the game started in fullscreen I did use Alt-Enter to switch out of it, so that is likely the reason.
I like the new popups you've added since I last played.
I got to the How To Parry popup and pressing Esc is not closing it. I'd just gotten a new weapon and wanted to double check something on it so was pressing Tab as things started, so maybe that caused an issue with focus. I tried clicking on things other than the button to get focus, along with pressing Tab again, but it did not get to where Esc worked. Clicking on the button worked fine.
With the need to go back to the menu regularly to get Masteries, the load time does feel a bit long.
I finally got to a Merger location with amulets to merge. The green button, that I assume is to Merge, is mostly under the Back button. Enough sticks out that I can click on it. After the merge, when trying to exit, I got the popup on merging. Both the Exit button and the Info button brought up the Info screen when clicked on. Pressing Esc worked to exit.
Great Master Shield says "Chance De Congelar Al Enemigo En Parry". Most of it was easy enough to understand, but I wasn't familiar with Congelar, so had to look it up.
Thanks for the feedback. I just uploaded an update fixing these bugs, along with a few others.
I intentionally kept this review window to around five to ten minutes so I could reach more jam entries and give more developers feedback. I played on Windows 11 using Chrome, and focused on the page, onboarding, controls, presentation, and immediate hook.
First of all, putting a Steam wishlist button both inside the game and directly on the itch page is smart as hell. Sorry, but I will be stealing that lmao. The opening music is epic, the premise is immediately clear, and the artwork establishes the divine-rebellion theme extremely well. I also like the character designs, and even the locked silhouettes suggest that the rest of the roster has been designed with the same care.
The playable tutorial does a good job introducing the mechanics, although I repeatedly ended up on the character upgrade screen when clicking Start Game from character selection, possibly because I was moving too quickly, but it is worth testing. The character artwork initially looks great, but during gameplay the main character appears overly bright and loses a lot of the detail and readability present in the portraits. I am personally not sold on the combat controls yet, because the timing-heavy, stop-start rhythm feels almost turn-based while still continuing in real time, which came across as clunky rather than deliberate to me. I tested with keyboard and mouse, but the control scheme looks like it may feel much better on a controller or Steam Deck. Either way, I wishlisted the game and genuinely hope the release goes well.
If you have two minutes between divine murders, I would love a playtest trade on BEAT BAES. Different gods, same questionable combat decisions.

I loved your itch.io page! For a second, I thought I was on a different website the quality of your game shows right from the start. I had already tried Beat Baes and filled out the form; I thought it was a really fun and well-polished game, and Tais is definitely my favorite waifu.
As for the wishlist button I added, go right ahead! I copied it from another developer too, haha. I’m looking forward to seeing how your project develops.
Best of luck!
Cheers, thanks for playing and good luck to ya!
Gorgeous Game, but I eat every hit of the enemy regardless of I have pressed the correct button or not. Can't pass the first encounter. Need to increase the time to react, according to the human reaction time. It may vary per game design of combat system. For example, in my game You have nearly 0.2f seconds to react and can defend against multi-hit attacks mid-combo as long as the character is still standing on the ground, plus I have readable movesets of characters that can be learned as you continue fighting. Your game is QTE based with three variations of attack chosen absolutely randomly, therefore much more time is needed to react properly. Currently, the rate of "I HAVE PRESSED THAT BUTTON, D@MNIT!" situations are out of this world.
