We have social media and chatrooms for that. Like NTTP said, Matrix and XMPP/Jabber, which I both have.
Bolting a forum onto an unrelated site is scope creep; the least common denominator is simply too broad, which you can see from how almost all topics here are either spam, or are topics that have a better place elsewhere.
As long as there's an option for each account to disable Chats and PMs like they do on Reddit. It would give people the option to either receive and send private messages and not to.
I'm generally game for functionality, but the current forums already work and they're useful for discussions and sharing knowledge, so find I. It's not a bad addition, just... kinda redundant. 😅
