Hey, if you're gonna use AI don't fucking say you didn't use generative AI. The art for the enemies and player are clearly mismatched, the itchio banner is so blatently AI, and as someone who has made a vampire survivors style game in a game jam I can assure you, you can use your own creativity and ability for it.

Stop letting the computer do your work for you, and especially stop lying about it.

On a gameplay level there's no purpose to kiting enemies, you just can't do enough damage to consistently get souls to upgrade and so all you end up doing is running around the horde, not even doing real damage, just, waddling... Sorry to leave such a scathing review (I know it's unbecoming), but you didn't really put that much effort into the game but rather effort in prompting...

Yeah fair, I get where you’re coming from. Just to clarify though, none of the actual in-game art or audio is AI-generated. I only used AI for the itch.io page art because I was basically out of time at the end of the jam and the Page wasn’t rly a prio. I probably should’ve made that clearer, and I’ll likely replace it later anyway.

On the gameplay point, I get that too. The early game is meant to feel a bit weak and slow, because after a couple upgrades you start scaling pretty hard. I can understand how it’s frustration in the begin but i also think thats this makes it more rewarding reaching the mid game.

I do think saying I barely put effort into the game is a bit harsh though lol, the actual game was still made by me during the jam and was only my third game overall.

I think for a third game it's a solid job, but whenever you use AI on one thing, it cheapens the feel on everything else, even if it's used on something supportive rather than central.

Kinda like using shredded up glass as a salt replacement, even on a 5-star steak it'll ruin it...

I really reckon if you ditched the AI stuff around it (and were at least honest about if you did use it) your stuff would feel much more like a piece of art rather than a product of haste.

Best of luck on your next endeavor, I hope it features more "you"

I just want to clarify that I personally see the “generative AI was used” checkmark as meaning that something in the actual game is AI-generated, but I respect your opinion because I think you can interpret it both ways. I also think AI-generated art doesn’t belong in a game, but for something as unimportant as the page for a mini jam, I think it’s fine to use it to save some hassle.

I get where that thought can come from, especially with how tired I tend to be at the end of a jam!  But when you're presenting work to other devs, the jam page is the first thing we see!  I'd much rather see screenshots or sketches or a blank background, because it's the thought that goes into this that we're engaging with each other's work for
