The Collective Shout fiasco led to a bunch of devs on Itch to either be shadowbanned or outright removed from the site, with a fair few categories of material being particularly targeted, among them mind control content like CK. Arc previously had decided to completely remake the game to both clean up old code and do a soft reboot on the lore just prior to said events, which lasted almost two years. During the process they changed the artstyle from a Koikatsu style game to what you see in the "Original" image above, which left a fair few folks (myself included) disgruntled as a result due to how different it was from the first project. More recent changes to Patreon meant the reboot also wouldn't be allowed there, which cut off the game's main revenue stream outside of Itch, so Arc decided to can it entirely and start from scratch, which resulted in the polls over the last couple dev posts here.
