Hey everyone,
I’m putting my pride aside to make this post because I genuinely want to understand what I’m doing wrong.
I’ve poured hundreds of hours over the past several months into hand-drawing, animating, and organizing a 2D top-down pixel art collection (Mutant Series—a core pack with 8-directional animated characters and ruins, plus underground, toxic lab, and ruined zoo expansions). I tried to do everything “by the book”: cohesive palettes, pre-sliced .PNG sheets, Unity-ready setups, and free demos to test before buying.
The reality check? Zero sales. Not a single copy.
I know the asset marketplace is competitive, but hitting a total wall after this much effort makes me think there’s a fundamental disconnect somewhere. Instead of guessing in a vacuum, I’d love to get completely unfiltered feedback from fellow devs and artists:
- The Visuals: Does the pixel art look unappealing, amateur, or muddy? Do the palettes or 8-directional animations feel off?
- The Usability: Looking at the sheets or the previews, does it look awkward or frustrating to integrate into engines like Godot, Unity, or GameMaker?
- The Pricing: Is the price point scaring off indie devs who are just prototyping?
- The Presentation: Does the store page fail to show what the assets actually look like in motion during real gameplay?
- The Theme: Is top-down post-apocalyptic/mutant survival just a dead genre right now?
Here is the project page: https://cnrkiiart.itch.io/mutant-series-pixel-art-top-down-pack/devlog/1667686/mutant-series-bundle-sale-extended-
Please don’t sugarcoat anything—I’m looking for actionable critique so I can either fix the current packs or rethink how I approach asset creation entirely.
Thanks for taking the time to look!
