I tried first conversation but then later got stuck. Didn't know what to do at all.
It was pretty confusing afterwards.

how the game fits the uplifting theme?
The game is about removing explosive remnants of war (ERW). Despite the concerns of the islanders the penguin population actually benefited from the mine clearance because tourists scare away avian predators.
how the game fits the ocean theme?
The setting is the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.

I can vote for between 10 - 20 games.
Really impressive game, there’s a lot of content and you can tell a lot of effort went into it! I’m not a native English speaker, so I got a little lost with some of the text-heavy parts haha. The atmosphere also felt kind of creepy to me, in a good way. Really interesting experience!
I really wanted to like this one. Clearing landmines in the Falklands is a great cause, and you seem to be building this in a real intellectual way. Awesome.
But I got stuck pretty fast – Same place as PGad, I think, at the field after the debate. It was a bit overwhelming. Lots of menus to open, but not clear which things mattered at the moment.
My confusion is probably addressable with more careful UI work, taking a more guided approach maybe? And of course that kind of thing takes time to balance and polish.
Thank you for playing!
After the jam I'm planning to make the protagonist have a thought bubble to indicate that s/he should speak with the NPC.
A kind reminder that there is a level select which you can use. I made it in the hope that if someone got stuck they would use it to see the rest of the game.
Definitely there is always more polish that can be added. I'm working on it.
I used to travel around Europe and compete in university debate, so I like the idea of making argument into a form of combat. I managed to complete the tutorial and the 2nd level by performing basic actions to charge up by power, and then advanced actions to progress the conversation. I then was tasked with getting sheep into the enclosure, and after a few minutes of trying to interact with them they didn't seem to respond to my attempts to herd them (?), so I halted there as I wasn't sure how to progress. Potentially I am missing something.
It seems like there are a lot of different systems in this game! I didn't have time to fully comprehend the preference system, and I saw notes in the level up text about minigame zone timing, and I assume the four tabs at the bottom will also play a role later.
Thanks for making this!
Thank you for playing!
Oh, that sounds like quite the adventure - the travelling debater!
Yes, that is the main loop - perform basic actions to gain power and then use that power with advanced actions to move the conversation forward to completion.
About the sheep - please keep in mind that you are not pushing them but rather pulling them. They will go in the direction you are facing (up, down, left, right). I plan to make the shepherd NPC appear and assist after X minutes.
Just a kind reminder - you can select the levels. In case you got stuck on level 1 you can continue to level 2 which has a more elaborate mode of dialog (trust building) or level 3 which contains a surprise mini game.
Yes, there are a few systems in the back end. My ambition is to create a full fleged RPG focused on social interaction. I'm slowly getting there.
You're welcome and stay tuned for a new game in October! I wish you a bright day.
When I opened the game, I felt this was pretty cool game where you win arguments with politicians by reducing their patience. The arguments and interactions are pretty solid. The game sort of restricts you from saying some things, but thankfully it highlights the items you can say in yellow.
Now the next screen took me to a field where I needed to get permission to actually remove the mines from a private property. I was stuck here and was not able to figure out how to proceed.
Any tips?
Hey, PGad! In the first level (private property field) you need to talk with the man in front of the house. This triggers a mini game. After you complete the mini game you need to speak with that person again. Then you open the inventory and click on the mobile phone. Finally you speak with the deminer to proceed to the second level.
The first part is like a cutscene which needs your input to move along. It's linear because it serves only to set the story and show parts of the dialog system. You will see that all the other meetings you are not resicted.
The first conversation is linear/scripted - there is no way to make a mistake. There is onboarding in the game - there are a few tutorials in the other conversations.
Because I didn't want to bombard the player with too much stuff at the beginning. You can select only the right action (the other actions turn red and nothing happens when you click them). You chose what is important to remember. If I put explanations you might think all of it is somehow important. It is, but not at the start. Think of the start as a storyboard.
