Interesting little prototype, definitely very barebones, but I like the idea of not being able to fight back against enemies. For reference, I only played on the "hardest" difficulty, which wasn't really that hard once I got used to watching the edge of the screen for the glowy eyes.

There were a few unfair situations where I was already backpedalling from one enemy and got sandwiched by another one coming from the opposite direction, or jumped up only to immediately get hit, but fortunately those were overall pretty rare. The game straight up telling you where to go definitely made things much easier, too! Level design is obviously too big of a topic for a review, but I personally think for a short game like this, sometimes it's better to just have a more linear level with only a few branching paths, compared to what's essentially a single giant room where you keep running into roadblocks over and over.

I managed to find all three crystals and got all the way to the bottom level, but unfortunately I got stuck on a waist-high barrier and couldn't figure out how to get past. The nearby launch pad didn't launch me high enough to get over the wall, and I tried pressing every button but couldn't find any sort of dash or glide or anything else that would give me more air distance.

Still, the minimal graphics did a pretty decent job at selling the horror setting, and I think the idea of dodging enemies in the dark has a lot of potential. Nice job!

Not a metroidvania. All the crystals are literal keys; they're not abilities.

Anyways, the game itself was ok, but dodging the orbs was really annoying. It's very common for you to be hit by one that was offscreen when you go on the jump pads or fall down the holes, and sometimes their movement lines up in a way where it is impossible to avoid them.

Developer

the orbs has a low chance to do that, unless if u have played it for a decent amount of time, at least thats what i see from my gameplay pov, anyway thanks for playing!

That was fine. I don't really get what people are saying about it being scary, or stressful, or even particularly difficult. It took me a couple tries but while the orb things instakill they also don't move very fast and it wasn't really that hard to avoid them. The hints also make it pretty explicit where you're supposed to go... which does pretty much eliminate anything remotely metroidvania-ish about this on the other hand, and it was already pretty questionable there.

Developer

well by the time i was making it, without the hint, new player seems to have a bad time to find the crystals, so i think i should probably add those hints, but uhh, it remove the metroidvania theme it seems like, i will keep this in mind, thanks!

I consider the gameplay of this game an attack against my person.

Why did it have to be unavoidable death spheres all around this maze? This was made out of hatred.

I died WHILE DYING.

Here is a video of me playing through it.
Developer

at least u finished it, thanks!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this game, the soundtrack did take away from the unease, I would've loved it if you went all in on the horror element of the game! Very interesting choice to take away the ability to jump in the hard path, it would be nice to have some way to know if there's an enemy right above the jump pad but off screen. Overall great job on this game, I was quite spooked!

Developer

Thanks for playing! the horror element was not intended by the time i was making it😅anyway glad u like it❤️

Cool game! I had fun on hard mode, even though you took away my ability to jump, after starting me off with the ability to jump. I think to be able to open the menu and not die randomly you could have a variable set to true when the menu opens (and false when it closes), and have the enemies check for if the value is true and if it is they can't move. But I kind of liked the aspect of having to time when you open the menu so you don't get caught.

Developer

thanks for plating! yeah for the menu i do kinda messed up a bit on the script 😅
