How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Edgar Aetheling is returning from his long exile in space to return to his homeland (the "old gold" in this scenario) in England. Medieval alternate history meets sci-fi. It is an acid trip. Have fun.

I really liked the variety in enemies it kept things engaging and fun in finding new ways to tackle things!

the storytelling was really interesting, i'm glad i didn't skip it. would be cool if this had a level select, i tried several times but didn't get too far lol.

Glad you enjoyed our game!! Would definitely like to add a level select and some other quality of life imprvoements in the future, 100% agreed.

Definitely feels like it fits in the Gameboy-verse, great job with the graphics too! Also, I appreciate the lore skip, definitely comes in handy when restarting.

Love it! That's a lot of lore though. 😋 The gameplay in particular has a nice loop and feels really well made - great job!

Congrats on finishing your entry!

I wish there was a page indicator for the lore haha. The style of writing is fun, albeit a bit cumbersome to read.
Level design is nice, but the large collision detection for the player makes the game a bit harder then it should be imho.

Thanks for playing!! I definitely agree that some quality of life improvements to the dialogue manager would be a priority should we continue this project. I think the lore is a bit more cumbersome in appearance than it really is because of the way our dialogue manager forced us to break up the text. We originally wanted the text to be arranged in verses of roughly equal length, which was the way they were orignally written (essentially as a  free verse poem). I'm also planning on uploading the lore to substack so people can read it outside the GB Studio dialogue manager.
