Very poor work on interpreting the theme. A very difficult and frustrating playthrough; I felt nothing but aggression while jumping across those platforms. Although the character initially seemed very cute and appealing, this didn’t help salvage the overall impression of the game. Moreover, the soundtrack would suddenly kick in at certain moments, and since it already evokes anxiety, this only made it even scarier.
You could turn this game into a great horror! You have a talent for making games that make the player uncomfortable. Awesome job!
Thanks for the honest feedback. I wanted the playthrough to be difficult, similar to A Difficult Game About Climbing, but I did not intend to make the player super uncomfortable. Sorry that that's what you experienced, but I really appreciate the feedback and will consider these in either an upcoming update or my next game jam :)
That last set of jumps is tight! Finally figured it out though and ended up winning. :)
I looked at comments to confirm that you did put in some coyote time which is good, though I did find myself slipping off of the corner of platforms (I think maybe that the hitbox is rounded or follows the sprite?)
One thing I was wondering about was that some of the room transitions were kind of odd to me. There was one that stuck out midway through, where you go right->up->left some stairs and the edge of that section was its own room. It kind of made me wonder why it wasn't all together.
Glad to hear you ended the game!
Yes you are right, the hitbox of the player is rounded, but the grounded check is done with a box casts on the sprite's feet.
My original idea for rooms that stuck out mid-way through was to show a part of the next section, kind of like a sneak-peek of what's going to appear later as you progress in the game. It's good to know that some of them felt odd, this is something I'd definitely enhance.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Lol! I hate you but I did it xD. I must admit I didn't love the controls but the level design was perfect for the controls of the game. I managed to reach the end.
Glad to hear you did it! Could you tell me what parts of the controls felt off to you and what you wish was different? Thanks for the feedback!
You're diabolical for this one lmao. Luckily I did lots of coyote time testing in a platformer I was making earlier this year. The music was minimalist but did what it needed to: made me wonder if it was making fun of me after I missed a jump while the protagonist turns towards the camera with that cute smile.
I'm glad to see you finished the game, congrats! Yes towards the end, the jumps have to be precise and are possible due being close to or in the coyote time window. Thank you for the feedback!
I was thinking about the way you worded this, and tried again without running jumps by positioning myself at the very edge of the platforms and finished the game in about 2 minutes. Very clever haha. I had fun with it.
Okay here we go! The art for the game is pretty cute, loved it! I had one problem with controller input idk why, maybe its my old ass controller lmao. Another problem I had was with the screen resolution, often i would get almost invisible and had to get out of the fullscreen to scroll down and finally see the character and where it is
As the name of the game suggests, it is pretty challenging! Good job!
I'm glad you liked the art! I don't think it's your controller, the game doesn't have controller support lol, only keyboard. Regarding the resolution, I'm confused about your statement because in fullscreen mode you should be able to see the entire game. Did you mean you were on the itch page still? On the web page, the canvas I set was 960px by 864px for the player, so if there is not enough height on your screen, then yes you would have to scroll down to see the rest. Thanks for the feedback!
Challenge of gold is certainly a challenge! The platforming is unforgiving lmao. the character would often get stuck just trying to jump up to the next block but if the controls were adjusted a little bit I think it would be a slam dunk rage platformer. I wished there was just bit more variety when it came to the environment and the music/sound as well but the art that was there was pretty good and the characters were really cute. I liked the little things they would say as you came across them on your adventure!
Haha yes, I'm glad to hear that it was unforgiving! I'm curious to know where you got stuck, I would love if you could send me a screenshot of where that happened (my username in the discord is also "ernaniraffo"). I am happy you enjoyed what was present in the submission and thank you for the feedback on what could be improved!
I'll play through again and send over some screenshots. I'm Determined to get further this time >:D
