the intro of oz

hey what's good? i'm following gummidog's lead, and dropping a little intro/dev ting here.

i'm oz(they and also them), i like mangoes and Buck-Tick and fast cars i do not know how to drive. i'm a recovering poet who now mostly just makes little smutty story-games about queer bipoc cuties to entertain my partner, who is the queerest bipoc cutie of them all. i am a hobbyist in the worst way, im afraid.

as for the jam, i have some haphazard notes and ideas of what i'll make, and decided at some point that it should have pixel art, so i've been spending the time pre-jam learning pixel art. so, even if i fail to make something worth sharing by jam-end, at least i've picked up the beginnings of a new skill. win-win, either way, i suppose.

tbh if you don't make little smutty story-games about and for queer bipoc cuties what EVEN are you doing with your life???

I'm also learning pixel art and so far I've learned to keep them tiny we're talking like 16x16 pixels max and to use a premade palette cause color theory is another skill to learn.

oh, um... (^▽^;) taking a quick glance at my current sprite size, and it's... 96x192 lmao. bit of a nightmare as a novice(esp when it comes to walk cycles (╥_╥)) but i am nothing if not a stubborn fool; i'll make it work somehow.

thankfully, i really like playing around with color, so that aspect has been pretty breezy, for the most part, tho i will pop on lospec from time to time to check out what the cool kids are up to.

it's been raining nonstop today, so i've spent the time sprite-ing and prototyping. opened up rpg maker for the first time in a long time, only to realize i'd forgotten yet again how to do even the most basic things. spent some time re-familiarizing before running into an issue that took way longer to resolve than i care to admit. in the end, the issue turned out to be a case of such egregious and infuriating human error that i had no choice but to close RMMV for the day in order to preserve my own sanity (>_<)

that sure is the rmmv way T_T (<- hasnt used it in like 10 years but still remembers the horrors) However. virtual pet game in rpg maker style is bound to be a banger

bruhhh, it was so frustrating, i nearly cried, but rpg maker is the only engine i've ever paid money for, so i am determined to make something cute with this thing.

happily, after a break and reminding myself to double-check the most obvious culprits before falling down an hour-long rabbit hole of "why oh why isn't my event eventing", the sailing has been much smoother today ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

couldn't sleep, so i've been sketching out a little pixel room for my little pixel babe to live in. decided to go for a pre-rendered/parallax BG rather than using a tileset, so once it's done i'll pop the layers in engine and try to fight it out with collisions.

while playing with pixels, i've been listening to 'girl, get up' by Doechii, SZA on repeat. i love all her stuff, but this one is something extra sweet. like the aural equivalent of being hugged from behind while luxuriating in a warm bubble bath. good shit fr (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

okay, my eyes are finally starting to get just the slightest bit heavy, so i'll stop here to lay down my head and hope for the best. back to it later ( ˘ω˘ )ノ゙

im loving these little updates in this thread. parallax backgrounds are so much more fun than tilesets imo, they just feel more like a painting than a math puzzle T_T i love the song too! i gotta get into doechii's stuff. the production is scratching my brain really nicely

exactly, i love seeing my characters wandering around a little painting as an environment; it's very cute. i like also that with parallax BGs i can make the spaces look more homey and cluttered and lived-in than with tilesets, where everything is very spaced out and kinda empty-looking due to the grid.

and yes, Doechii is lovely. we love Doechii ꒰ঌ(˶ˆᗜˆ˵)໒꒱

this weekend was my anniversary, so not too much progress made in favour of irl fun ₍ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ₎♡~ so, in lieu of anything cohesive, here's an assortment of wip stuff + a random-ass pic from the new tama my fave gave me, along with the song i've been playing on repeat tonight as i play catch-up w/o any further comment whatsoever.
