Jam HostSubmitted (1 edit)

hi. this is actually a nice game concept!
unfortunately, after careful consideration we have to disqualify this entry as it breaks multiple rules of the jam:

  • the resolution is 4x higher than it should be
  • there are well over 4 colors
  • it seems likely that AI was used
Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify the issues:

• The resolution was higher than the jam requirement because our programmer was making a Game Boy-style pixel art game for the first time.

• All pixel art was created manually by our team using Pixel Studio on Android. No AI-generated artwork was used.

• The extra colors were caused by an export/compression mistake in Unity. The image compression was accidentally left enabled, which caused the colors to blur and split into additional colors.

We understand that these are rule violations, and we respect the disqualification. We’ll make sure to follow the technical restrictions properly in future jams. Thank you for pointing them out!

These are the kinds of games that really hook me, hahaha. I really liked the idea!

Next to agreeing with the other people about the colour and graphic issue, I think it is a fun twist on rock paper scissors where there is a lot of room to do math and calculate what would be the best play, which I quite like! Think it fits the theme very well! :)

It was fun but the gameplay was affect by RNG a lot. Nice feedback/juice on the actions. Visuals are good but not gameboy accurate. Soundtrack was really nice!

Cool twist on rock paper scissors, and the card art looks really nice

I don't know how to tell you this, but you have more than 4 COLORS on the Screen

Developer

Thank you for playing and good catch! After checking, it turns out Unity's default texture compression caused some unwanted color artifacts and gradients on the sprites. We forgot to set the Compression to 'None' for some assets. Thanks for pointing it out!

The gameplay loop is cool but the graphics do not resemble the gameboy at all. They're good don't get me wrong but the cards being rotated like in the game wouldn't be possible on the gameboy and I'm pretty sure there are more than 4 colors on the screen too.

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the gameplay loop! You're right, the rotation is definitely a modern engine perk rather than true Game Boy hardware logic—we went for a 'Game Boy-inspired' feel with smoother UI animations. We also had a minor texture compression issue that added extra color shades by mistake. Thanks for the detailed feedback!

Interesting twist on the classic game of rock, paper, scissors. Graphics were very impressive!

Developer

Thank you! We had a lot of fun designing the mechanics and the pixel art, so I'm super happy you enjoyed the graphics and gameplay!
