Solid prototype! The music has a dreadful certainty to it, much like the grind of labor. The broad systems could use some work, but the movement and digging feels great!

Good work!

Fun pirate game with fun gameloop (love the little legs go up and down animation), sometimes it wasn't as clear what a tile was to me or the difference between the areas but the concept of the level collapsing and needing to weigh if you go further or back is a nice one, well done especially with being brand new to art and music!

I love the game! I like the idea of digging straight down and its nice and simple, i love the progression mechanics too. The only thing I would say is its so easy to go broke T-T But great job!

pretty cool game!

  • the graphics are decent. there seems to be a bit of a style difference from the title screen and the rest of the gameplay art. glad you were able to fix the transparency issue you had on the menus and get everything within the 4 color limit!
  • i like the music. the title screen song is my favorite. the gameplay music is good too, but starts to get repetitive after a short time.
  • like how picking up more gold makes you move slower. reminds me a bit of Dome Keeper in that regard. the digging and way you have the NPCs setup reminds me of Steamworld Dig. if you haven’t played those games, they are good ones to check out!
  • it took a little bit for me to figure out how digging works and what the UI at the top of the screen was telling me. i died a lot at first. then i started to draw the connection between when the bars and why the level would collapse. i probably should have read the screen better before digging lol!
  • i’m still not sure how bracers help and where i can and can’t place them. it seems like they can only be placed on an edge tile, and i assume they help keep the stability up, but it’s hard to tell if they’re really making any difference. maybe some more feedback would be helpful for that. maybe they could add a bar to the stability meter?
  • it seems like the more expensive dig sites aren’t even worth it. they don’t allow you to dig very deep before they start collapsing. i just stuck to the second one mostly and would get a few hundred gold and come up when the stability meter was down to 1 bar.
  • i don’t really know what the different is between the different tile types, but some seem to be more likely to have gold and others seem to cause collapses quicker.
  • the canary didn’t seem to help any, and i’m not sure what the “plank cap” upgrade did.
  • it’s a bit weird that you have a “leave” option in the menus, but selecting it does nothing. instead you have the X actually exit the menus.
  • i was able to pay off my debts though, so now i’m free!!!

i hope this is helpful feedback. nice job on the game!

I really appreciate the depth of this feedback. Thank you!

Most of those issues in tracking, and the short answer is I ran out of time.

Many of the points of confusion is how I set the game up. When instability triggers it rolls a % chance. The later levels I made this too high, it isn't balanced properly. The canary triggers every chance, so if the roll doesn't trigger it seems like the canary is random.

Again, thank you for explaining the transparency. It would have sucked to be DQ'd out of the gate.

It was a nice small game to play. It has a cute art-style and music was good for it.

I did however not understand the planks stuff to avoid collapses?? I kinda just did the 20 digsite and it never collapsed so there I got all my gold from.

Overall it has potential for a gameboy game.

Developer

Thank you! I didnt have enough time to playtest thoroughly. I have heard a few times that the balance in the later levels is not worth it. I appreciate the time you took to try it out and to leave feedback!

While the idea of a digging down game is not bad for the jam, I feel like this fails to manage to put anything unique onthe table. What we have works, it just needs a little bit more spice. Some explanations/variations on the areas could be also great, because other than the “go up bar” going down faster, there is no real distinction between them as a player.

Graphics wise the game is okay, seems to keep the limitation in mind and has a nice sepia palette which works for the theme.

Music and sfx I did not enjoy, they were just too high pitched for me.

Overall not a bad entry, could be a nice stepping stone to build upon!

Thank you for the feedback

Overall a good game which you can really get into for a long session! Some explanation on the types of earth and upgrades would be useful for noobs

Developer

Thank you, and you are correct. I think because I understood what everything does I missed a lot of explanations. Thanks for playing!

Nice soundtrack and juice when digging, I was a little confused about what certain things did like when you hit certain tiles, it seems like some create more shake/instability but wasn't sure.

A like playing the game.the concept idea is also fun pay of your debt to get off the island. But it feels like the other pits are not worth it to go for. Some upgrades will help you out great. But I don't know what the planks do.

Really cool. It's great that you're using Godot :) The music is really good.

A little rough around the edges, but I really like the main game loop.  I'm not sure buying extra planks does anything - it said I had four, but I could only use two.  I also mistook the tiles most likely to cause a collapse with the ones that had treasure (the ones with the white rings) at first.

Edit: Oh, minor thing: selecting "Leave" in the Bank and Shop menus doesn't actually leave, you have to hit B.

But I like digging and exploring for goooooooold so this one was fun.

Really fun.  As other said, maybe you should put a small comment in the description of the game, I was super confused during a big part of the time hahaha. When you understand how to mine, it is really fun.

A Nice game, I lost all my money a few times, and didn't quite get what the braces do and which blocks give more money, also sometimes the character would slow down a lot, but overall a very cool idea and a fun game, I think more instructions would make it more intuitive.

It took me a sec to realize I was breaking the tiles most likely to destabilize the mining shaft and not the ones with loot. I went broke a couple times, one time from buying gear before my first dig, and just hung out with the NPCs, but I figured things out eventually. The vibe is cool, reminds me of Dredge in some ways, maybe in part due to the pirate accordion music. Overall, a solid concept with a good core loop.

I think the game is really neat but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get a profit while digging. Still it plays well and is overall good for a solo effort!

EDIT: Also I'm a doofus that softlocked myself my first run by buying too much so I couldn't even afford a permit lol. That's totally on me, but it'd be cool to like, introduce the shop after the first run so the player knows the runs cost gold.

This game was pretty cool! The levels were very well developed, though the game got confusing at some point--maybe you should begin it with a tutorial round so that you can see exactly how to mine for gold?

Great job, keep it up, and thanks for the rating!

Cool game!! Took a while to understand, but i think it was an skill issue on my part. Really liked it, the sfx feels good, the chill music makes you immerse yourself. But i had a problem with the screen shake, it feels too strong, and makes u feel dizzy after a while. But overall, good job, amazing game!!

Always love a little mining game where the game loop involves earning gold to get upgrades. I like the risk vs reward stability mechanic, especially as someone with a high risk appetite.

Unfortunately I think I accidentally spent all my gold on upgrades near the end and didn't have any left to buy another permit, LOL. I will try again and attempt to finish it later!

For some constructive feedback, I think the screenshake was a bit too much. Also, some more juicy feedback on breaking the blocks would have been nice, since that's the main thing the player would be doing. I would look at games like Core Keeper or even Minecraft for some inspo on that.

Other than that congrats on the game, and keep it up!

Developer

thank you! running out of cash like that happened to a tester as well, but i couldnt think of a good way to address it before i ran out of time. I appreciate the time you took for that feedback!

hey! game looks cool. just a heads-up though, you’ve got more than 4 colors in several places because you’re using a background behind the menus (and the credits page) that is partly transparent. this also makes everything hard to read! just making the background 100% opaque should fix the issue.

Developer

Thank you, I'll patch this tonight.

Didn't think about it because it was still the correct color lol.
