Got it to work, and it is indeed tetris! I can't say it really meets the theme of the jam beyond feeling like gameboy, and to be honest even for tetris i'm surprised you didn't go with blocks that appeared different from one another.
That being said, it works and I had some fun playing tetris. There was a bug where a line did not complete, and another bug where a piece stopped rotating despite having enough room, but all in all i was able to largely play normal games of tetris! Good job
Edit: to be fair, the unearthing coin block thing is a wrinkle on tetris, and I do commend you for doing all this while dealing with real life stuff. That in itself is a feat worthy of praise!
Second edit: I rated the gameplay based on (a) if it worked being basically tetris and (b) not working on launch. Please don't take it personally, it's a fair rating given all the circumstances and ANY JAM you survive to hit "submit" on is an accomplishment!
My first jam submission (phaze killer) was riddled with bugs on launch, and received poor review despite having some cool core mechanics.
Keep making games and hope to see you in another jam!

All good man, your criticism is valid I very much appreciate it! Any personal issue I had is seperate from my work, and any good faith criticism is just another opportunity to learn so I genuinely appreciate it!

There are a lot of bugs and the blocks not rotating isn't necessarily a bug but an ooooold implementation of rotation behaving that way (if the blocks collide with borders on rotation, the rotation gets cancelled. Modern tetris deals with this by finding a suitable spot for the rotated tetromino instead of canceling).

Part of why the coin thing doesn't feel very substantial is that there is no score, no win screen or any indication that you are progressing the game other than the game getting more difficult at every reset methinks. Thanks for sharing your experience :D

Thanks for playing, see ya :)
