Theme interpretation and application
The main mechanic is like the one from the game Journey, a ring that gets bigger as you hold the button down

Limitation incorporation
I wanted to reference the ARG, so I added an owl NPC and made the story revolve a lot around the moon

First things first, the game looks absolutely gorgeous! I adored everything from all the portraits to the UI and the little wobble the player does while jumping. There might have been a couple too many rooms for my liking, but at least none of them felt like they had a lot of unnecessary empty space, which is often a big problem in these gamejams!

The controls were very solid too, and I loved that your attack is an AoE around you, it was definitely a nice alternative to shooting or swinging swords all the time. The variety of enemies was great, although some of the ranged ones were pretty annoying to deal with and in the end I resorted to the true and tested "just run past everything" strategy most of the time. The compression of every ability into the prayer/attack was a cool idea, but in the end I feel like maybe it was a bit too much functionality under one button, and it made it a bit hard to keep track of all the abilities I had.

Some minor issues I noticed was that the dialogue text sometimes overlapped the frame. The game also took a long time to load and initially stuttered quite a lot in my browser. Fortunately, it evened itself out soon enough, but still I feel like a downloadable build would've been nice! Other than that, some music would definitely have helped tie everything together, but obviously there's only so much you can do in a gamejam!

I managed to get to the top and talk to the goddess, and I like how it seemed like there were several ways to get there. I definitely missed a few stars along the way, though I'm not sure if there was a different ending or any other effect to collecting them, since the game didn't seem to keep track or acknowledge picking them up in any way. Regardless, excellent work!

I love the art, and those animations are super satisfying! (☆ O ☆)

I wish there was bgm, it would add so much atmosphere. (>-<)
Maybe the map is a little big/empty too, after the first area. :/

The environmental mechanics are great though. The ways they interact with the moveset are lots of fun. :D

And seriously, the visuals are sooooo good!

This is such a great Celeste-like game, the art is honestly the stand out aspect for me! All the layers, colours and themes are so distinct and cohesive, it's remarkable just how much you can feel the heat of the desert and the cold of the mountaintops just by looking at it. The puzzles are well done and utilizes the prayer mechanic very well, I like how some sections are designed such that it will get you killed if you spam the prayer blindly. I'd like to rebind the normal prayer and the dash to separate keys, there are so many times I accidentally dashed when I didn't mean to and vice versa. The characters have so much charm, they definitely made the world feel alive! As a composer, the lack of music is definitly a pain point, but I totally understand that music production is not easy, especially when you have so many other things to juggle, keep at it one step at a time and you'll get it eventually!

This game is pretty cool. I think the details and little motions going on in the background are great.
Definitely feels like some Celeste platforming DNA in this especially with the dash jump and moving platform jumping.

A weird wish, if you'll entertain it: I would have loved more "recoverability". In Celeste, you can recover from a ton of ridiculous situations. In Abertha, I felt more like everything leads you into situations instead. Dash jumping tends to get you hit by damaging blocks and enemies (and those fly dudes... do you intend on working for Team Cherry?), midair praying (initially) only boosts you up 1/3 or 1/2 a block so I felt like it didn't help me recover as much as the dash from Celeste or the luma spin from Mario Galaxy, and even when you do get the bigger boost (thank you for that by the way :D), it tends to get you hit by the bats + projectiles instead. Then again, this is a really odd point, and it's possible that no one else felt this way, so do take it with a grain of salt.

Overall, I think you did a lot with the time you had, and this totally feels like a project that could go even bigger and better. Well done!

Pretty nice game. The art is gorgeous, the player's base movement feels good, and the gimmick is interesting - making all your upgrades modifiers to one central move is a neat way to put a bit of a spin on otherwise extremely traditional metroidvania upgrades, but it does also lead to a lot of accidental activation that got a little frustrating at times.

Where this fell flat was the level design. There were some really interesting ideas playing with the moving blocks in the first area, but by the third area it felt like every room was a big empty passage designed just to fill space, with interesting setpieces or challenges being few and far between. You mention in the game's description that you threw together a very large map in the last couple days, which seems like a mistake - I think the game would've been better if you put that time into a smaller but more focused map with more thought out level design.

I like the art style, the juicy animations and details, is more difficult than i thoug and have to repeat some parts of the cave, but a good experience overall

Incredible art. So beautifully put together! Wish there was music, though. And those flying pricks that shoot at you are awful haha. Really solid entry, great job!

Thanks for playing! I genuinely considered removing the flies entirely, they were annoying me so much while testing XD
I also wish there was music, but I'm not a musician, so I tried a few times to make something FL Studio but I'm too new to it and was never happy with it. So uh...

...I've told myself I'll finally learn music development before the next jam

Very sweet little story! I loved the presentation, the environments look great, Abertha looks and feels super squishy (in a good way) to play and the sound design is pleasant. Bit of a shame that there's no music :(

It feels like the combat and world design as well as storytelling could've had more depth to them. I imagine you had ambitious ideas and the time just didn't allow for it, which is totally understandable. Regardless, it's a very well rounded entry, I like it :)

Thanks for playing! Yeah as per usual with game jams, I had a really ambitious plan for story and worldbuilding and stuff and had absolutely no time for it lol
