How does your game meet GBJam's theme
It's a shmup where you fire particles at mercury to transmute it into gold. Unfortunately all the old gold is gone, and new gold must be created.

Great work! I was having some trouble playing on gamepad (maybe it was just my controller? 8bitdo m30), but once I switched to keyboard, I had a good time. Loved the music!!! It was nice to play an arcade-style game in between zelda-like games (I say as person who worked on a zelda-like game.)

Thank you, I'm glad you had fun with it! I was hoping my controller binds were flexible enough but lesson learned, I'll have to figure out how to handle the SEGA layout. Looking forward to trying your Zelda-like!

The issue might be on the hardware side. I think the gamepad maps the dpad to the analog stick instead of typical xbox dpad, so I reckon that's probably it. A and B buttons worked fine though!

Developer

Ah that makes sense. I have some code somewhere that snaps analog stick to 8 directions and -1 to 1 vectors, but I ran out of time to implement, even on my target controllers.

Good game i think adding a boss level would be cool for this that shoots lasers and fire, you could have created different levels while keeping the loop the same and having different levels you can still be simple with it like having the balls come from different areas or have areas the ship cant fly in or all the walls are lasers or things are chasing you or the balls are less or more or faster speed. adding more levels with simplicity

This definitely gives me some ideas. I would love to expand with some real "stages" that can be completed, with different hazards and strategies. A small amount of narrative could also go a long way.

I love the sound in this and played for quite a bit. Does anything change if you go long enough?

Developer

Sadly, no. Everything past the core loop was sacrificed at the altar of scope management. I'm planning to do some polishing after the jam, let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks for playing
