Pretty unique pirate ship game that feels like you're sailing on the sea, and shooting down enemy pirate ships with your side cannons. I also like the loot mechanic that you can spend on upgrades after making deliveries, but it also serves as your health. It does get ridiculous when you spend gold on sail speed but it's also fun in that way.
The visuals are great but I think they could've felt more like a Game Boy game beyond the colour pallete.
I think the pop-ups menus could've been less distracting and actually pause the game so that you don't get hurt while deciding what to buy (the HP bar could've overlapped the upgrade menu).
Good job overall!
Thank you for the feedback! We decided to not cap the any of the upgrades after realizing it was pretty fun to try to break the game like you said! Also it took quite a few upgrades to do so so might as well reward the player with some fun.
Took out the menu pausing for the continue menus because it felt too restrictive, but made the game pause when there was a decision to be made. Also good point about the hp being covered by upgrade menu, didn't catch that until it was too late.
Appreciate you leaving the positive feedback, thank you!
Nice
Gameplay loop is fun, and the theme is there. I think the sounds and the way pixels on the ship rotate instead of being animated for 8 directions ruins the "gameboy feel" of it a little though. The fact pixels can go at angles for the ship instead of adhere to a gameboy-like screen is a little off. Other than that though, it is neat to play and looks great. I like it!
Thanks for playing it and for the feedback! If we had more time we probably would have drawn the 8 angles, but for speed we just kept it straight top-down POV
Had a great time working with friends to make this happen ! Please leave feedback so we can improve!
The graphics are stunning. Really does feel like im in sea. I like the color palette. a lot going on in your game that you implemented for your world. You got the enemy ships attacking you, upgrading your ship, discovering places. Definetly the music through me off it didn't seem like it fit with the game , but the feel and look was done well
I like your detailed ships, especially how they bank into a turn, nice touch. Spending booty to buy upgrades, a time honored tradition that always feels great. Pretty similar idea to mine, that's why I had to check your game out.
Just one comment: ADDICTIVE GAME LOOP. Nice and polished game.Only thing that doesn’t convince me 100% it’s the guitar melody loop in the background: not so much GameBoy-ish
Thank you that means alot! Understandable, the music track could have been more gameboy-like. I appreciate you playing the game and leaving kind feedback!
