How does your game meet GBJam's theme
I depicted "old gold" as a metaphor for the economic system's evolution, with a focus on an inflection point from history serving as metaphor: gold being smuggled inside hollow wooden saint images, and how such a thing more or less signified the advent of a new age and, subsequently, a "new God."

The presentation is really well done - the graphics and music are on point, I think all it's really missing are some sound effects. Gameplay-wise I think it could use another mechanic to make it more interesting, and it would be nice to be able to hold shoot instead of having to mash. Overall great job!

Thanks! I did think of a bomb system akin to the touhou games, but there were lots else I needed to implement and it didn't really fit the mood. Had I had some more time and energy I would've designed and implemented a similar mechanic that makes use of the gb's other buttons.

I love the battle music and the story of these two! The theme interpretation is unique, too. Tho sadly couldn't finish it cuz I suck at bullet hell 😭

Thank you very much for playing, and for your words!

Also about the difficulty... Yeah, oof. I did make it fairly difficult.

You can die to the boss when its in its death animation which I did accidentally to the second boss.
Gameplay was fun, and liked the part where when it went to a new scene it would do this alternating thing with the colours as if it was loading it in.

I'm sorry about that, I only had the time and mental stamina to make sure the lasers clear upon boss defeat.

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you had fun. The screen fade outs were all planned then made by hand, meant to simulate how the game boy would flush a scene when transitioning to something that's a bit intense on its limited memory.

why not make it run on browser?

My project is really scuffed, and Game Maker Studio's HTML5 export is already something you have to build a project around.

I had major burnout from the very beginning and hadn't opened GMS in a whole year (last GBJAM), so I couldn't afford to structure the project in a way I could assure HTML5 quality. Sorry.

If I could hold ctrl to skip text between battles, this would be pretty much perfect.

Ty!!

Agreed. Shame the system I had wouldn't really allow for that without causing problems. Maybe it comes in an update.
